Chapter 1
Drip.
The rain harassed the glass window that was inches away from Kasuka’s ivory complexion. Her eyes watched each and every drop hit her shut window as she laid on her bed under a bundle of warm blankets. She couldn’t help but wonder what they felt like; those liquid tears spilling from heaven behind those grey clouds. If she’d ever felt rain, Kasuka wouldn’t have remembered at this point.
Drip.
There was a quick knock on her door but she didn’t move from her spot on the bed. Her parents wouldn’t have wanted her too, anyway. The knob spun and a soft click echoed through the dark room and in emerged one of her housemaids, smiling like they always do. The bubbly blonde maids bowed there head to me.
“Kasuka-sama!” they chorused, each tilting there head’s to the side as Kasuka continued to find more interest in the rain. “Kaito-sama has just left for school and your mother wished us to tell you both that she and your father miss you both very much! She also told us to remind you that your literature tutor will be arriving here at ten on the dot!” As recognition to their words, Kasuka nodded her head. The chorus of maids bowed their heads once more – still beaming! – before leaving the pallid girl alone to watch the rain.
Drip.
Once she was sure that the maids were not in fact in her and her brother’s room, Kasuka bolted upright and peered around the shared room curiously. It was painted a soft blue and held many pictures from when Kasuka and Kaito were babies to now at ages fourteen. Everything about the room was symmetrical; opposite to her bed was where his bed was, their closets were on the same wall, every little detail was perfectly mirrored. Kasuka’s eyes fell on her brother’s bed and she inspected the neatness it was made as if it was fake.
A small thud echoed in the symmetrical room as Kasuka fumbled out of her bed and staggered to stand. Desperate, she grabbed onto the side of her regal bed to steady her shaking legs. She bite her chapped lips as she slowly let go of the regal bed and staggered to her brother’s side of the room and dropped onto his bed. It smelt like his cologne and Kasuka grinned at this. She closed her eyes and focused on the light tapping of the rain shower outside. Then, an idea sparked her mind.
Drip.
As Kasuka stumbled out of her room with her brother’s uniform hidden in her nightdress, one of the maids caught sight of her and gasped. This caused Kasuka to pause and stumble over her own two feet, thus leading to her desperate grip to her doorframe and frantic looks being sent to the maid. The maid rushed to her master’s daughter and helped her up.
“Kasuka-sama!” she exclaimed when Kasuka could stand on her own. “What do you think you’re doing? You almost gave me a heart attack!” The young girl dug her tow into the newly polished hardwood flooring as she tried to develop a plausible reasoning.
“I,” she spoke in a soft, almost child-like voice. “I wanted to get something to eat for breakfast…” The maid’s worried eyes melted into that of relief and she ruffled her girl’s blonde-brown hair. After proclaiming that she’d get the food instead, Kasuka began to panic. How am I supposed to escape if the maids are cornering me? She thought with a pout that she quickly disguised. “No, it’s okay! I need to get out of my room.” The maid’s face dropped.
“You sure?” Kasuka nodded and the maid reluctantly let her pass.
Feeling proud, the little blonde-brunette promised herself a warm, chocolate chip cookie when she returned from her travelling. Looking around the vacant halls, Kasuka slipped out of the front door after grabbing one of her mother’s parasols and was met with a frigid breeze. Her eyes went wide as the door shut behind her and she realized she was stuck there.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
Raindrops smacked the sidewalk and seeing them so close was wonderful. Scratch that, seeing everything this close mesmerized the young girl. Kasuka was used to seeing things from a distance, or from her brother’s point of view. Her fingers trembled as she hobbled forward until they were out from under the porch roof. Cold water met her fingertips and for once in a long time she felt a sense on serenity and a soft smile crept onto her lips. Finally, Kasuka allowed her whole body to emerge from under the roof and she tipped her head up until the raindrops met her lips. They were tiny like tears, but weren’t salty in the least. It was like a dripping faucet.
“It feels…” Kasuka murmured. “…nice.” So not to get a cold and cause more traumas to her body, she opened up her parasol and walked aimlessly away from her home in search of the infamous Ouran High School Academy.
Ouran High School Academy: home of the richest, aristocratic families; a place for them to ‘play’ so Kaito has said on many occasions. He described it as a large building; much larger than Kasuka could ever imagine.
“Like…” he had pondered, placing a finger on his lips. “Like at least ten of our houses. At least.”
And knowing Kasuka got lost in her own home some days, that school must be huge.
Her feet splashed through the numerous puddles that were beginning to form on the sidewalks. On this street, more people took limos everywhere but seeing as this was Kasuka escaping she couldn’t flag down any drivers. However, she wasn’t going to have to because a humongous cream colored building surrounded by a lush campus caught her eyes. She staggered to a stop and gripped a nearby telephone pole to steady herself. Around her, pedestrians passed by and eyed her nightgown and slippers but none bothered to see if she was in need of help. For, no one knew who she was.
When she was steadied, she limped through the gates and passed by an overflowing water fountain. Beneath her, the piggy slippers were moistened and heavy on her weak muscles. A grimace appeared on her lips and she nonchalantly took them off. After awhile, she made it to the front door and snuck inside. Students were bustling around in either big yellow dresses or formal blue suits like the one she carried in her dress. While no teachers were out to see her, much of the student body caught sight of her and stared as she stumbled into the girl’s bathroom. No one knew who she was.
There was no one in the bathroom so Kasuka stripped down in a stall and changed into the male attire for Ouran Academy. She exited the stall and ran her fingers through her fine blonde-brunette hair; damp from the rain.
“I wonder where Kai is…” she murmured placing her knuckle in her mouth. Kasuka peered in both directions while still getting stares from people because it was easy to see that she was a female and not male yet she wore the male uniform. However, she remained oblivious and made her was to a random direction. Of course, this direction led her to about a million stairs. She peered up with pursed lips. “Of course…”
The whole time spent climbing the stairs, she gripped onto the railing like it was her lifeline. At this point, there wasn’t even anyone near her so even if she were to ask for help she was out of luck. Finally, the top finally emerged and she caught sight of a music room. Her eyes sparkled with happiness.
Kasuka and Kaito’s parents were two renounced musicians that travelled the world. It had been their dreams for their two children to play instruments as well. Since a young age, Kasuka was taught how to play the piano while her brother was taught to play the violin. While no where near the excellence of their parents, both children are beyond accelerated musically from years of private training. Seeing that music room in front of her reminded her of this.
Maybe Kai is in there! She smiled softly, hopeful to see her brother. Kasuka grasped the door knob and pulled it open. Rose petals showered the young teenager and she watched the dazzling red and pink petals fly around her. At first, she didn’t even seem to take notice of the seven people just inside.
“Welcome to the host club!” they chanted and Kasuka gasped when she saw them. All of them were incredibly attractive and all she could do was stare in wonder. However, they lost her interest quickly as she scampered in the room and began searching for her brother. The one in the middle, a tall blonde male with deep blue eyes, stared at the intruder in shock. This male was Tamaki Suoh; a second year in Ouran Academy and the son of the principal of the school.
“Why is that princess wearing the male uniform, Kyouya-kun?!” he shouted, turning to the glasses wearing man next to him who scribbled away with beautiful penmanship. He too was a second year, the same age as Tamaki, and was named Kyouya Ootori. He peered up momentarily to look at the staggering female who scampered around the old music room.
“I do not know…” Kyouya answered, glancing through his papers. “She’s not a customer that I am aware of. Nor does she seem to even attend this school, according to my records.” Kasuka continued with her search until her left leg gave out beneath her and she toppled over. Her hand caressed her leg as an eccentric, younger looking blonde boy ran up to her holding a bunny. Despite his appearance, this was third year student Mitsukuni Haninozuka, or ‘Honey’ for short.
“Are you okay?” he cried out knelt down beside her. Unsure how to react to the adorable boy, she shakily tried to stand up just to be helped up by a black haired man with an impassive stare. He too was a third year student and best friends with Honey; a man named Takashi Morinozuka, or just ‘Mori’ for short. Before either of them could speak to her again, she scampered away just in time to nearly trip again but was caught by two identical twins with auburn colored hair and hazel eyes.
“You seem a little lost,” they said in unison as they helped Kasuka steady herself. These were the Hitachiin Twins, Hikaru and Kaoru, both first year students. Frightened – was that they feeling? – of these two she broke free and toppled on a kind looking brunette with brown eyes. This male (who was really a female, though in disguise) was first year student Haruhi Fujioka.
He blinked and also steadied the intruder before saying, “Hello miss! It’s nice to meet you!” Kasuka’s body shook in fear and her eyes darted every direction. All she’d wanted was to see her brother.
Suddenly, the front door flew open and there Kaito was standing; his breath coming out in heaves and his teeth gritted in anger. Kasuka became overrun with joy as she sprang out to him from Haruhi’s hold and latched herself onto him. Despite his anger, she cradled his older twin in his arms with utmost care while sending daggers at the Host Club members.
“Kasu…” he growled now, looking into the identical eyes of his sister. “What are you doing here? And why are you wearing my uniform?” As the Kasuka remained in her brother’s loving hold, Kyouya wrote notes down and explained the situation to the rest of the Host’s while Tamaki was still in his undeniable confusion.
“It would appear…” Kyouya stated and the Host’s turned to face him. “That is Futago Kaito-san. He is a first year student here. Both of his parents are highly notably musicians and according to his courses he is highly musical. This must be a younger sibling of his.” Kasuka and Kaito froze and at the same time peered at the seven Host Club members; causing them to freeze as well.
“Anou…” Kasuka mumbled to the seven, directing her attention to her sibling’s eyes for comfort. “I’m older by five minutes…” And together, the two of them called out, “We’re twins, can’t you tell?”
The Host Club froze as they took in the similarities that were now notable. If they’d been the same gender, they realized, there probably wouldn’t be that big of a difference between the two. Kyouya also noted their undeniable closeness that the Hitachiin Twins also seem to share with each other. The only thing that none of the members could figure out if the reason behind why the sister wasn’t attending the school too, and why no one seemed to even know of her existence.
“Kai,” Kasuka grumbled, becoming antsy. “Let go, onegai.” Kaito reluctantly released his twin and placed her gently on the ground.
“Kaito-san,” Kyouya spoke for the rest of the members. “Why is it your sister isn’t enrolled in Ouran Academy?” He held an expensive inkwell pen in his hand and was ready to jot down everything there was to know about that girl. Kaito raised a brow at the curious second-year and turned away from his gaze with his arms crossed.
“If you must know,” he grumbled, sending them an evil eye. “Kasuka-chan is sick–”
“She’s sick?!” Honey gasped, and turned to the tottering girl. “Kasuka-chan, are you okay? Do you need some medicine? Kyouya-kun’s family specializes in that stuff so I’m sure he can help you!” The young girl stared at him with wide eyes, and then at her brother who was all but frothing at the mouth. How was she supposed to talk to this boy? She wasn’t sure; she didn’t know.
“It’s not some fricken fever that’ll go away in a few days!” Kaito yelled at the hyper blonde. “She… Kasuka has Becker’s Muscular Dystrophy. It’s indefinite; there’s…no cure.”
Suddenly, Kaito’s eye’s fell on his sister who began to stagger again and he rushed to help her. However, before he could she knocked into a pillar holding an expensive looking vase. Fear rushed into his eyes as he easily caught his sisters trembling body and caught the vase in his other hand. He breathed heavy as he sighed and placed a finger under Kasuka’s chin.
“Please be careful…” he breathed. “Kasu…”
“Gomenasai…” Kasuka answered as her trembling ceased. Kyouya soon realized that the two of them were naturally like this all the time, and according to his records Kaito didn’t seem to have many friends from school. These two… He thought, watching the vase shudder from Kaito’s lack of paying attention to it.
SMASH!
The nine teens stared at the now shattered vase that had slipped from the palm of Kaito’s hand. While Kaito and Kasuka’s eyes widened and were prepared to begin freaking out, the Host’s had different ideas in mind. Hikaru and Kaoru appeared on either side of Kasuka stared at the younger twin while shaking their heads.
“That vase was worth at least a million yen…” Kaoru explained, looking at its remains.
“We were going to sell it off in a few weeks but now you go off and break it,” Hikaru said with a sigh. Kasuka looked at her nervous brother and her lip trembled.
“I-It wasn’t his fault!” she said to the Hitachiin Brother, her eyes filling with salty tears. “I-I ran… into it so…” She paused and her face turned bright red. What was she doing?! She looked down and away from their hazel eyes. “Gomenasai…” Hikaru and Kaoru looked at each other and then down at the embarrassed female who had no idea of what she was getting herself into.
“Kasu, I don’t see why you’re getting so worked up,” Kaito said with a shrug, setting his sister down. Everyone’s eyes directed to him. “I mean, we can just have mom and dad–”
“Iie!” Kasuka screamed, shaking her head. Her blushed deepened from her outburst and avoided the watchful eyes of the Host members. “W-We can’t… M-M-M-Mama would b-be m-mad… if she f-found out I l-left t-the h-house…” Her eyes were glistening with tears and Kaito was taken aback; as were the others. After a few seconds of sadness, Kaito groaned and gave into Kasuka’s puppy eyes.
“Fine!” he growled, and faced the rest of the Host Club. “What do you want from us?” Kyouya form a devious smirk as he peered down at the teary-eyed ‘King’.
“That was beautiful!” He cried out, and running at the two pairs of twins while Haruhi massaged her temples behind him. He pushed Hikaru, Kaoru, and Kaito away and embraced Kasuka with tears flying every which way out of his eyes. “So adorable like a baby sister!” Kaito jumped up and karate-chopped Tamaki in the head and stole away his sister; holding her like she was a baby doll. Her eyes were spinning from the sudden circular motions and everything seemed to twirl around like ballerinas.
“To pay off your debt,” Kyouya began, jotting down more notes in his notebook. “Because both of you were in the act of smashing the vase, both of you will be Host’s here to work off your debt.” Kaito growled; this was the last thing he’d wanted to do after school. Not to mention this would involve Kasuka having to sneak out every school day.
“And if we refuse?” Kaito answered, but one look down at his sister pleaded that they do as these loonies said. He groaned, but answered, “Fine, whatever. We’ll work for you.”
Tamaki cheered and swiftly took Kasuka away from Kaito and spun her around again. She just stared at him as Kaito jumped up and down to reach her. How was she supposed to react to this? Was she supposed to smile and laugh as Tamaki? Or maybe get mad like Kaito? What about act devious and sneaky like Hikaru and Kaoru, or intellectual like Kyouya? Maybe hyper and sweet like Honey, or quiet and impassive like Mori? She stared out at Haruhi who looked back at her intently before sending the new recruit a wave.
Or maybe, she didn’t need all this figured out yet.
Sorry, it was pretty long XD Comments, Questions, Criticism? Please!
