CHAPTER ONE!!! *Moku’s POV*‘Life should never be thought of lightly. Anything can happen in an hour, a minute, or a mere second that could change anything, or everything, about you. Not that you should live in your past mistakes or problems or whatever they are, or worry about something that hasn’t even happened yet. But, hey, if that’s what you want, so be it. The choice is yours. Either you die without having experiencing that pain, or live facing those sorrows.’ I sighed at my last diary entry, written the night before. The journal had been full of my wisdom since that day a year ago. My therapist had instructed my mother to buy me a diary so I could let loose my feelings on paper, instead of speaking them in words that I could no longer say. I had expected she would try to read every entry, but she didn’t; allowing me the privacy I needed, but nothing more than that. Surely, it was because she believed my therapist’s words; that I would speak again when I was ready. Maybe I too believed those words, to some extent. “Moku, dear!” my mother shouted from downstairs. “Honey, you need to get out of bed if you want to catch the eleven-o’-clock plane! Chop, chop!” In a quick second, I arose from my bed and stared blankly at the opposing wall. I heard gently feet gracefully bounce up the staircase. “Moku!” she laughed childishly. “Don’t make Konohagakure wait! Oh dear, you haven’t even taken a shower!” She helped me out of bed and I scurried away to the bathroom. I stripped off my clothes hastily as I turned on the shower. Jumping in, I winced at the sudden heat, but endured it. Once I was out, I waltzed back into my room. My mother had placed a navy blue suitcase on my bed. Already in it was my favorite shirt – the one my late father had bought me at some poker place he and his friend, Dai-san, use to go to – and favorite skinnies. Also in there was my diary, my notebook of stories, my iPod, and my stuffed kitten, Chika-chan. I smiled at him and mouthed, “Friend” with a grin. I only mouthed words to her; I wrote in a notebook what I was saying to everyone else. With the suitcase slung over my shoulders, I slid down the staircase railing and sat at the counter in the kitchen. My mother had cooked eggs easy-over for me with a side of toast and a light Yoplait yogurt. I eyed the food and took small bites of everything before going to the fridge and making a glass of orange juice. Parched, I took a long swig of it, and then turned back to the remains of the food on my plate. Just as I was about to take another guzzle of orange juice, my mother came flying down the stairs and slid clumsily into the kitchen. She loved waxed flooring with a passion. “Moku!” she gasped, grapping my luggage and sprinting for the door. “It’s nine! We’ve got to get going if we’re going to make your flight!” If I could talk, I’d tell her that the airport was only about two miles away, so we could get there in less than a half hour, but due to the fact that I wouldn’t talk anymore, I just followed her out. Getting to the airport was the easy part. Finding which plane I was supposed to be on was another story. Thank the heavens we had come early, because if we hadn’t arrived an hour and a half early I’d have missed my flight. The attendants clearly stated both on the intercom and to our faces that the Konohagakure students were to enter a Boeing flight on the second floor, but somehow Mom had to make it ten times more difficult than it had to be. When all was said and done, I had only five minutes to spare before the plane was to take off. And with all the goodbyes Mom had to say, five minutes wasn’t long enough. “Oh, honey, you’re so grown up!” she cried, bawling and hugging me. I hugged her back, while simultaneously inching my way towards the entrance area. The attendant, who had to take my ticket, spoke in my defense. “Miss, your daughter has to go now.” She stated easily in a carefree manner. This meant nothing to my mother. “Write often!” she cried, gripping to me tight. “Oh, heavens above, my only daughter’s leaving me!” I had tears in my eyes after hearing that. I had forgotten; Mom was going to be all alone in our medium-sized estate. Reality had finally set in, but I knew I had to go. “Miss!” The attendant shrieked as my mother shoved me towards the plane. This, too, surprised me, but I knew she had only done it because it was now or never. She smiled apologetically and waved. I waved back with a smile and walked onto the plane cautiously; not knowing what to expect. All I could do was stand there. There were maybe a hundred different high school students on the bus. Worse yet, most of them appeared to have a friend or more with them to talk to. My heart fell, because I knew I had no one to sit with whom I knew unlike the rest. But, I thought to myself sadly, it’s not like I would have talked to them. I quickly made my way towards the back of the plane toward the only vacant seat. I placed my luggage in the cubby above my head before losing myself in my mind. My going to Konohagakure’s was my idea, but my mother was the one who had mentioned it first. About a month or so after my father passed away, she was reminiscing of times when I visited some friends in Konohagakure. It had been five or six years since I’d seen them so her talking about them was a little surprising. She told of the schools there; they had a kindergarten, an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school. Unlike the kindergarten, elementary, and middle schools, the high school was a boarding school which had struck me as interesting. But, Konohagakure was a little different than my own home town. Suddenly, someone sat down next to me just as the plane began to move. Frightened, I jumped and spun around to face the person. Sitting there was a boy who appeared my age with reddish-brown hair and dark eyes. There was also the Japanese character for ‘Love’ written on the left side of his forehead. He sort of struck me as an outcast, but that only went as far as first impressions go. I mean, he did sit next to me instead of someone else. Maybe he too was alone on this trip to Konohagakure. He noticed me watching him and questioned in a low voice, “What…?” I knew I couldn’t answer him, because I couldn’t talk nor did I have a piece of paper so I just stared back at him. I could tell he was getting annoying so I pointed to my mouth and shook my head. He nodded knowingly and I knew he got the picture. I thought that was the end of our conversation (I don’t even think that could even be considered a conversation), but before I could begin day dreaming he spoke again. “You’re… a mute.” He stated, staring now at the seat in front of us. I didn’t know if I should nod or do something so I just watched him. He said nothing more. With a sigh, I stood to grab my luggage to obtain my notebook. He watched me rummage through my stuff, but still said nothing. Once I found it, in my average penmanship I wrote, “Yeah, I’m a mute. My name’s Moku Kotori. Who are you?” I was about to show him what I wrote when I realized he had been looking over my shoulder. Quietly, he mumbled, “Gaara…of the Desert.” He didn’t appear to be the type to talk much, so I ended our conversation there. I wasn’t going to force someone I didn’t know to talk to me. Especially because that someone looks pretty damn skilled in the ninja department. Not that I was weak, I just wasn’t born in a town where ninja skills were all that important. All I know is what my parents and friends from Konohagakure had taught me. I wasn’t exactly sure how long it took to get to Konoha by plane since when I was little my father drove me, but I didn’t expect it to be too long; maybe a half hour at most. Even so, I grabbed my iPod and listened to some music to pass the time away. Gaara continued to sit there monotonously, staring blankly with those intense eyes of his at the back of someone’s seat. Personally, I thought to myself, I would hate to be the one in that seat. Those eyes…hold so much pain, sorrow, and hatred. It’s nerve-racking… Suddenly, everyone but Gaara and I began to cheer. This confused me so I stood to see what was going on. Gaara did the same but when we didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, we sat back down. “I think we’re here.” Gaara murmured, and I nodded realizing this could be true. Peering out the window, the first thing I saw – standing out just as much as the Statue of Liberty in New York City – was their magnificent gate. This was a strange sight for someone like me who was from a normal town. “You look…interested.” Gaara said abruptly as he grabbed his own luggage, catching me by surprise. “Why?” Grabbing my luggage as well, I scrawled in my notebook, “This is the first time in a long time that I’ve come here. It hasn’t changed a bit.” He nodded and we made our way off the plane together. The airport was either really, really small or there were too many people in one area. Just as we were coming off the plane, we were lost in the hundred or so foreign students (such as ourselves). Gaara just walked calmly through everyone like no one was even there. I envied that about him. Due to the fact I wasn’t as skilled in the ‘calm, collected, careless’ attitude, I followed right behind him so not to get lost. He seemed familiar with the area and I trusted whatever knowledge he had. I couldn’t help but be a little surprised to see he actually knew where the school was. “What?” he asked. I was staring back and forth between him and the enormous school. It looked like Yale or Harvard, not a high school campus for ninja students. With my notebook in my hands, I wrote, “Do you know this area well?” He peered at my writing and shrugged. “My older sister is a junior here and my older brother’s a sophomore.” He stated. “I’ve come here once or twice.” I nodded as he began to walk toward the entrance of the school. I followed behind him, conscious of where I was going so I don’t get lost next time I’m in this area of the school. “Hey, watch it!” “Coming through!!” “Move it, or I’ll FRICKEN CUT YOUR FACE OFF!!!” I couldn’t be sure who said the last sentence with all the people running like headless chickens around me, but I made an effort to move it as far away as possible. Gaara was unfazed by the violent chatter, so I took that as an ‘I’ve gone through this crap before. Just walk and ignore, walk and ignore...’ attitude. I tried to copy it, but failed miserably. Gaara stopped randomly, causing me to run into him. “The office is just up ahead. I don’t recommend going in right now; it’s infested with retards.” I nodded at him and took out my notebook. “Is this normal?” I wrote, cocking my head once he finished reading. He sighed and nodded. I sighed as well. Suddenly, I saw blurs of faces. Blue hair… pale eyes… timid expressions. I closed my eyes. Who was that? When I opened my eyes, the girl was gone. Or maybe she was never there at all? I couldn’t be sure. Gaara was watching me out of the corner of his eye. “You’re… a strange one.” He closed his eyes before starting to walk again. I bit my lip and followed. The office, like Gaara had said, was like a suicide case; screaming people, adults trying to stay calm, and all that. One girl peered over at us and looked slightly relieved. She ran over to us quickly. “Gaara-kun!” she yelled. “What took you?” “Temari-chan…” he murmured. Looking at the girl closer, she and Gaara had similar features so I guess she was probably his older sister. The girl – Temari? – turned to look at me. “Whose this?” she asked. “No one…” Gaara answered. The girl raised an eyebrow before turning to me. “You are…?” she asked curiously. She was still eyeing Gaara, but I knew her question was directed to me. I flipped open my notebook and wrote, “Moku Kotori.” She stared confusedly at my writing like it was gibberish. “Why don’t you just talk?” she asked. I shook my head, but she didn’t understand what I meant. “She’s mute.” Gaara said in my defense. The lady nodded and smiled apologetically. “Heh! Sorry, uh… Moku was it?” she laughed uneasily. “The name’s Temari! I’m Gaara’s older sister, and this year I’m a junior!” She smiled happily. I smiled back. Finally, the masses of freshman died down and I was able to reach one of the attendants. “Hello! Your name?” I showed her the page that I wrote only about five minutes ago for Temari. “Moku Kotori…? Ah yes! You are muted, yes? That’s quite alright!” I felt myself glare as the lady smiled on. What was ALRIGHT about being a mute?! “Can you please take out your school transcripts?” I opened my suitcase and grabbed an envelop with my name on it and handed it to the lady. She continued to smile on which was beginning to creep me out. She began to type something on the computer. Immediately, a paper flew out of the printer. “Here you go!” she handed me the paper that listed both my room number and my classes. Thankfully, on the back of the paper was a map of the school. I was going to return to Temari and Gaara, but they were gone. I raised an eyebrow and peered around the room, but they were definitely gone. Saying the dormitory buildings were huge was an understatement. They were even bigger than the college dorms I’ve seen! I’m sharing a dorm with…two people? Goodness, I hope the rooms are large... For some reason, I had an urge to hold Chika-chan now. So much was changing in such a little time. It was a rush of emotions. Quickly, I opened my suitcase and once I felt fake fur I dropped my suitcase and hugged her. I haven’t felt this…emotional in a long time. “So much is happening, Chika-chan…” I mouthed to her. “I even… thought I saw a girl I use to know! What’s…What’s going on?” Before I could think of a good enough reason to explain the strange happenings, someone plucked Chika out of my arms. I gasped and spun myself to see who dared to take my stuffed kitty. Standing there, menacingly, was a group in black cloaks with red clouds on them. The one who grabbed my stuffed animal held no emotions on his face. “What… the hell are you doing here?” My eyes widened. Black hair… intimidating red eyes… emotionless tone. I gulped. It’s… Itachi Uchiha! ***End of Chapter 1***

CHAPTER 2!!!! Moku's POVWell, most of them stood there menacingly. One of the seven or so members actually appeared to be a sweetheart. He was wearing an orange mask though, so I couldn’t determine what he was like through facial expressions. “Well, well, well…” Itachi mumbled. “What is little Moku-chan doing around here?” I stood there without answering him nor did I write anything in the notebook. “Ita-kun…?” the masked boy asked. Itachi’s expression went from a sly apathy to complete annoyance. “What is it Tobi?!” he yelled behind him to the masked boy. “Aren’t you being… a little mean?” the boy whose name I guessed was Tobi asked Itachi. I could see the frustration boiling through Itachi’s veins. “Shut it, Tobi!” another man who looked creepily like a fish yelled. Tobi began to cry (at least, I think that’s what he was doing. It was kinda hard to tell with the mask and all). “Tobi is a good boy!!” Tobi cried. The other six all sighed heavily. I slapped my hand over my face. This guy… is SUCH a baby! A guy (at least, I think it was a guy) wacked Tobi upright the head. “Don’t be such a baka, baka-kun, un!” “I’m Tobi-kun! TOBI-KUN!!!!” Tobi cried out, slapping the guy/girl/it back. I giggled, completely going against my no-talking lifestyle, but, then again, laughing wasn’t really speech was it? Both of them turned to me, Tobi appeared happy while the other just said, “What the hell…un?” I went quiet again and tried to back away into the shadows. That didn’t work very well though. My eyes kept drifting to poor Chika-chan whom was now dangling lifeless in the air. “What’s wrong?” Itachi muttered. “Cat caught your tongue?” I felt myself sniffle and I wanted so bad to do something, but I knew I was no where near strong enough. I hung my head in shame and sadness and traced cracks in the floor with my toe. Their stares bore into me like knives. Will this pain ever subside? The pain in my breaking heart of lonesomeness and loss? I didn’t know; I just wanted Chika back. Tears streamed down my cheeks and a voice and my head spoke to me in a low, snake-like voice. “You’re weak, Moku.” It said to me. “You always cry, Moku.” “No one loves you, Moku.” “Why don’t you just die?” My heart was racing. The voice weren’t real, and I knew that for sure. It wasn’t always torturing me. It was only after the accident that it started. The worse part about it was the voice was my own; yelling at me for random reasons. I wanted it to just stop. And whenever this happened, there was only one thing I would do; a silent scream. The group of senior stared at me in horror and I wasn’t surprised. I had dropped down into fetal position with my hands on my head and my nails digging into my scalp. My mouth was ajar like I was about to scream, but nothing came out. At least, I didn’t think anything did. But suddenly a little puppy came whimpering around a corner toward me. His eyes were wide in fear, but there was something sympathetic about the dog. He was pure white and no bigger than Chika-chan. I slowly regained control of myself and shut my mouth and dropped from fetal position. The dog ceased it’s whimpered and grinned at me. My lips twitched up in a smile though my eyes were still tearing. Suddenly, I heard footsteps running through the same hall as the puppy. “Akamaru!” a male’s voice yelled. “Akamaru, where’d you go?!” The puppy back away from me a tad and walked towards the voice. Finally, a boy slid down the hallway up to the dog, whose name I guessed was Akamaru. His breath was even and he stared down at Akamaru. They exchanged glanced for a second before the boy allowed the dog to jump in his arms and them atop his head. Akamaru barked and the boy turned to face me for the first time. I blushed a few shades of pink. He was cute; really cute. We both just kind of stayed where we were looking at each other, but then he smirked. “Hey girl, are you new here?” asked the boy. I gulped and wiped my eyes. In my notebook, I wrote, “Mhmm I’m a new freshmen. My name’s Moku Kotori, and you are?” The boy laughed and bent close to my face. “I’m Kiba Inuzuka and this is Akamaru!” he pointed to the white puppy on his head. “Can you not talk, cutie?” My mind lingered on ‘cutie’ for a few seconds before I was able to shake my head. He smiled sympathetically. Turning away from him, I stared straight at Itachi, who was now talking quietly amongst the other seniors, and Chika, dangling from his left hand. My expression was forlorn. I hadn’t realized Kiba was still watching me until he spoke again. “Is that you’re kitten?” he asked, looking in the direction of Chika and Itachi. I faced him again, surprised, and then nodded. “Why do Itachi have it?” he asked me. “He took it from me.” I wrote in my notebook. Kiba studied it for a moment and then returned to watching Itachi. “Well,” he began. “Are you gonna take it back from him or do you want me to?” This remark surprised me a bunch. Why would some kid whom just met me want to help me? He grinned at me and stood up. I watched him move in front of me. Just before he could even think about doing anything, another boy came running down the hall. He had blonde hair and bright blue eyes and a teacher was chasing after him. “Hahahah! You can’t get me Iruka-sensei!!!” the boy yelled. “You’ll never catch me! Believe it!” The boy zipped passed Kiba and I straight into…Itachi. “NARUTO!!” Itachi and the teacher yelled and the boy continued laughing, having fallen on the floor in hysteria. I managed a giggle until I noticed Chika was no longer in possession of Itachi, but in the hands of the blonde boy! I gasped loudly, my eyes wide, and ran over to him. He noticed me coming towards him. “Hi!” he said with a grin. “Who are –” Not paying any mind to him, I grabbed Chika from his lap and cradled her in my arms, tears escaping from my eyes. “Chika-chan…Chika-chan…” I mouthed to her. My eyes then drifted to the boy who appeared confused. “Hi!” he said again. “I’m Naruto Uzumaki! What’s your name?” All I could do was continue to stare back at him; my notebook was on the opposite end of the hallway behind Kiba. Naruto watched me for awhile before questioning, “Are you okay?? Why can’t you answer??” Before I could really feel worthless, Iruka-sensei spotted me and instantly knew who I was. “Ah! So you must be Moku Kotori! I’m sorry about Naruto; he really is a nice kid… right Naruto?” By the tone of his voice, I could tell Iruka-sensei wasn’t too happy with Naruto for some reason. “I see you met Kiba and Akamaru; very skilled ninja I must say.” He nodded to Kiba who was mumbling something to himself, but when he noticed we were watching him he grinned at us. “Hey Mo-chan!” he yelled to me with a new nickname. “Don’t wanna forget this!” He threw me my notebook and purple jell-pen. I caught the notebook but the pen went flying over my head and stabbed Naruto square in the forehead. “HEY!!” Naruto yelled. “What was THAT for?!?!” Kiba was laughing his head off as Naruto’s anger boiled. “Whatever do you mean?” Kiba asked, muffling his laugh. “I was just trying to hand poor Moku her pen, but your big-ass head got in the way!!” “Oh, you’re asking for it Kiba!!” Naruto yelled, sprinting towards Kiba and yelling a battle cry. I bit my lip and looked up at Iruka who was busy massaging his temples. In my notebook, I scribbled down “Headache?” and showed him. With a sad smile, Iruka nodded. “These two are frankly the loudest freshmen in this school…” Iruka murmured. “And you, my dear, are definitely the quietest!” He laughed and pet my head. Knowing this to be a compliment, I smiled slightly back at him until Kiba and Naruto went running down the hall; Naruto grasping a well-sharpened kunai and Kiba laughing and running from him. “NARUTO!!!!! KIBA!!!!!” And again, I was alone. I decided to take a look at my map to find my room. It was in building 4 (nearest the forest on the western side of the school; the freshmen building) on the top floor (boys get the bottom three floors and girls get top three floors) and its room number was 229F (‘F’ represents the sixth floor; A is first floor, B is second, C is third, D is fourth, E is fifth). I made my way to the elevator, but upon reaching it there was such a line, my claustrophobia ran wild and I forced myself to find the staircase. Ironically enough, there was barely anyone taking the stairs besides one or two teachers and a few lost students. I raced to the top, clutching Chika-chan every second of the way. At the top of the stair case on the sixth floor, there were many girls running around screeching and squealing with fellow students. I maneuvered my way through the countless females toward my room. 221F…223F…225F…227F…! Finally, my room came into view. I fumbled in my pocket for the key and then I opened the door. “M-Moku…?” a voice mumbled in a quiet voice. I gasped. So I hadn’t been just seeing things… ***End of Chapter 2***

CHAPTER 3!!!!! Moku's POVHinata stared at me in amazement and I stared at her back. I knew I had seen her! She appeared as shy as always from the tone of her voice and the stuttering, but that’s what I liked about her. My little quiet friend. In my notebook, I wrote, “Hey Hinata! What’s up?” she read my writing slowly. “O-Oh!” she exclaimed, jumping up from the couch. “I-I heard that…you can’t t-talk anymore! Uh… um I’m o-okay, how are y-you?” I smiled at her. We spent the next few minutes catching up on old times. She admitted to me that she had a crush on a boy here and I began to wonder who it was. When I asked about it, she went quiet and began muttering nonsense so I dropped the subject. My mind wandered to the huge dorm room that I shared with her. It reminded me of an apartment, as it separated into two different rooms. This room contained a kitchen and a living room area and I would guess that the other room was a bedroom. “S-So…” Hinata started. “you’re…enrolling here now?” I turned my attention back to her. “Yeah,” I wrote. “I decided I wanted to enroll here instead of my hometown. Yeah know, I needed a break from there.” She nodded, as if she truly understood what I meant. “I-I see you still have…Ch-Chika-chan!” she smiled and pet my stuffed kitten. We both smiled at each other and giggled. Hinata was always my best friend. Suddenly, there came a knock on the door. We spun around just as a key was put into the keyhole. I looked at Hinata and she quickly whispered, “We-We’re suppose to have a j-junior stay in our room until they f-finish the construction of the J-Junior Dormitory. I-I t-think a senior b-blew up a…section of it…” I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. They allowed the students to walk around the campus with bombs? “Okay!” a voice said from behind the door. “Who are my kick-ass roomies?” The voice sounded awfully familiar. As I racked my brain to try to figure out who it was, a girl barged in with a huge, welcoming smile. She looked straight at me. “Look at that! Hey Moku, what’s up?” Hinata looked between Temari and I for a second before asking, “D-Do you know e-each o-other?” I nodded to her and Temari made her way into the kitchen. “I wonder…” she said suddenly. “Did they stock up on any food in here?” In the kitchen, I heard a groan. I sighed; no food yet I guess. She stomped back towards us and plopped onto the couch next to me. With a sigh, she said, “Hey, I’m Temari.” She outstretched her hand to Hinata. Taking it, Hinata answered, “Uh… H-Hi, I’m H-Hinata…” She smiled shyly and Temari gave her a confident smile back. “Sooo…” Temari murmured. “When are they gonna call us down so we can get the ‘beginning of the school year assembly’ thing done and over with? I want to be able to wander around. I need to find Kankuro; tell him I got Gaara off the plane and all that.” “Beginning of the school year assembly?” I wrote in my notebook and showed her. She skimmed it, nodding. “Yeah, it’s like…” she thought for a moment. “Like a way of say ‘hi everyone, welcome back to school’ but like ten times longer. Tsunade – the principal – talks the most, but Shizune – the vice principal – always says some little remark too. After that, you can basically do what you want, because there aren’t any classes today!!” she squealed and jumped up, grabbing my wrist. I flew up with her with a slight grin on my lips. I was going to like hanging around with her and Hinata. Something above us started buzz and then a voice sounded. “Hello everyone! I am your vice principal, Shizune! Would the senior building please make there way to the Assembly Hall?” she said, a smile in her voice. Temari paused and then smiled. “Finally!” she yelled, punching the air and grinning. “It took ‘em long enough!” After about five minutes, they called for the sophomore dormitory and finally the freshmen/junior building. Temari grabbed Hinata’s and my wrists and sprinted out of the dorm at top speed. Refusing to have to take an elevator with ‘a bunch of slutty life-suckers’, she chose to just fly down the stairs. By the time we were outside, Hinata and I were breathless. When Temari began to run ahead, grabbed Hinata and we ran as fast as humanly possible to keep up with her. I mean, she knew where this ‘Assembly Hall’ was; Hinata and I were clueless. “W-Wait up!” Hinata gasped. “P-Please! W-We can’t… k-keep up!” I nodded in agreement and finally Temari decided to slow down, but not because of us. In front of her stood many ninja who I guessed were Hinata and my age. There was a pretty big group of them and I noticed two of them were Kiba and Naruto; still fighting. Temari seemed to find this quite annoying. “HEY!!” she yelled at them. They stopped and peered at her. “Will you two SHUT UP?! Why not take the time to meet my new friend Moku instead of fighting?” “Moku?” Kiba and Naruto said in harmony and peered around Temari to see me and Hinata panting like puppies. “Hey! It’s you!” I pointed to myself and they nodded. “You’re the mute girl, right?” Naruto asked, a little confused. Kiba smacked him. “God Naruto!” he yelled. “You don’t need to just come out and label her ‘mute girl’! She’s gotta name! Right, Moku-hime?” Hime??? You thought with a blush. I’m definitely no princess! “Anyway,” Temari said rolling her eyes, “do you want me to introduce you to everyone, Moku-chan?” I nodded with a small smile. “Okay! From left to right it’s Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, Sasuke Uchiha, Ino Yamanaka, Shikamaru Nara, Choji Akimichi, Kiba Inuzuka, and Shino Aburame. And then you already know Hinata Hyuuga and my little brother Gaara and then I have one other brother named Kankuro. He’s one year older than you. And everyone, if you haven’t already realized, this is Moku Kotori! She’s an uber-adorable mute girl! Be nice to her!” I waved slightly to everyone and took in all their faces. Some of them looked oddly familiar; especially the Uchiha boy. And that wasn’t just because I knew he was the younger brother of Itachi. Why does that name ring a bell… Sasuke, Sasuke, Sasuke, Sasuke… As you racked your brain for any source of help, Temari had grabbed your wrist and was towing you and Hinata to the Assembly Hall. No matter how much I thought, I just couldn’t remember why Sasuke’s name was familiar. I peered at him calmly and noticed that he had turned to look at me. Raising my brow, I cocked my head and my eyes questioned him. He just watched me with his deep, dark eyes, shook his head as if answering an internal question, then focused on walking to the Hall. The Assembly Hall was crowded to the max and it was scorching hot in there as well. The seniors were the most obnoxious with people making out in the back rows and the gang Itachi I assumed was in was sitting in the far corner talking amongst themselves. Tobi, I noticed, was running around like a loose cannon with a roman candle in hand. This was very frightening, knowing how unstable this guy gave the first impression of being. “Come on!” Temari coaxed. I followed her and the others to the bleachers, ready to endure the long assembly as well I possibly could. “I-It’s so… crowded!” Hinata cooed and I nodded in agreement. The heat was notably rising higher and higher. I was beginning to feel very faint. Tobi’s Roman candle seemed to be getting closer to my face. I backed up a little, running into the girl I think was named Sakura. She squinted an eye at me then continued walking in Sasuke’s shadow with the other girl I think was named Ino. I raised an eyebrow. “Hurry it up!” Temari yelled at me from the top of the bleachers. Gaara was next to her. “Come on Moku! Get up here Hinata! Don’t make me go down there and force you up here!” I think Gaara mumbled something to her, but I couldn’t hear what he said. Quickly, I grabbed Hinata’s wrist and hurried up the stairs to the top of the iron bleachers. Accidently, I ran right into Sasuke. Blushing like mad, I bowed my head apologetically. I noticed a slight blush lingering on his cheeks, but I was too busy trying to maneuver to Temari to really care. Once we reached her and Gaara, Temari shot me a scowl for making her wait and Gaara waved. “Hello again, Moku.” I waved back and nodded to him in agreement. “I didn’t know if I should come or not…” he went on. “Temari says this get…boring. Skipping might have been fun….” “Well!” Temari cut in. “At least we get the rest of the day to ourselves!! Right Moku dear?” I nodded quickly that my head started to ache. She grabbed the back of it and laughed; Hinata and I joining her. Even Gaara, who seemed really apathetic when I first met him, muffled a laugh. I smiled at them…until I felt as though I was being watching. My eyes darted around everywhere, trying to find my ‘stalker’. Everyone seemed to be paying attention to Tsuande, who had just walked into the auditorium. I peered over at the senior section of the bleachers and focused on the gang I ran into only a half hour ago. None of them noticed me; most of them were yelling at Tobi or just ignoring everyone around them. I sighed and looked around a little more. Naruto and Kiba were both fighting and Shikamaru was massaging his temples, annoyed. I felt myself give him a sympathetic grin. Then, a shiver was sent down my spine. Trembling, I warmed my hands together and crouched forward a little. Instinctively, my eyes focus to my right at two dark eyes watching me silently. I stared back calmly, but on the inside my heart was beating like crazy. Don’t give yourself a heart attack… I thought. It was hard though; Sasuke’s eyes were daunting. But, there was a sense of gentleness in them; a knowing look I’ve seen before. My eyes calmed a bit. “Hello everyone!” Tsunade announced, followed by a chorus of students saying hello back to her. I aimed my focus at her, breaking Sasuke and my stare. “Welcome, new students, to Konoha High; a school only the most exceptional ninja can be educated! We wish to polish off, or help develop, your ninja abilities! Today we will allow you all to get use to your new surroundings and new dorms. Tomorrow will be when we start school officially! If any of you would like to do any extracurricular, please go to the bulletin outside of the Office.” A lady with black short hair took the mike from Tsunade. “Hello, I am your vice principal Shizune-sensei. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to ask either me or anyone else in the office. Thank you!” She handed the mike off to our principal. Next to me, I heard Temari mutter something to herself. “And with that note,” Tsunade continued. “Please enjoy your stay here; make it a good one! Your high school years will be the best or the worst. Give it your all! Don’t hold back! And most importantly…” She grinned at us. “Don’t get caught!!” Shizune gave Tsunade the most horrified look of the century. It wasn’t everyday your principal told you that you could do something bad as long as you don’t get caught. Everyone was yelling and cheering again. Temari was grinning wide at Hinata and I. “YEAH!” She yelled, jumping out of her seat. “It’s DONE! Woohoo!!” Gaara, Hinata, and I exchanged glances. This was all? This was the end of the assembly? “It wasn’t that long…” Gaara mumbled, getting up from his seat in a calmer manner than his older sister. “Yeah, Temari…” I wrote on my hand with a black pen. “It was only like five minutes, if even that. Temari scowled at the pen marks on my hand. “Yeah know, that can cause lead poisoning!” she scolded me. I ignored her discipline actions and followed closely behind Gaara, though keeping my eyes on Sasuke. Where the hell had I seen him? This questioning was going to kill me. “Pay attention to where you’re going Moku…” Gaara warned as I almost ran into Tobi, who lit a new Roman candle. The sparks fired only centimeters from my face. I let out a horrified gasp and a sound resembling “Eek!” escaped my mouth. Gasping again, my hands flew to my mouth. Though it was higher pitched than my normal speech, I definitely spoke for the first time in a year. Gaara noticed as well, but he said nothing about it. Someone rested their hand on my shoulder. My heart skipped a few beats; not knowing who it was. I spun around and looked straight into two dark, intense eyes. My eyes widened. Now I knew where I had heard the name ‘Sasuke’ before. He…He’s the one…who I was arranged to marry! *End of Chapter 3*(There's the arranged marriage bit.... oh well, I can't just change it at this point so try to forget it XD)

CHAPTER FOUR!!!!! Moku's POVWe never met; at least not until a few minutes ago. I knew not one thing about him and he knew nothing of me. All that I had known of him was his heritage and his appearance was that of his brother’s. Their eyes were the same; cold, black holes of nothingness, or so it always seemed with Itachi. Itachi and I had met many times when my father and I visited here. Father would always hang around Uchiha-san’s household while I just hung out in the background. More often then not, Itachi was there. Never, though, did I see Sasuke. One day, on my last visit there, I was daydreaming beneath a cherry tree in the woods. My father and Fugaku Uchiha were in a detailed conversation about something I wasn’t aware of at the time back at the Uchiha Estates. Itachi and I had been walking around in the woods, but he decided it would be ‘fun’ to leave and head for the training grounds and leave me stranded in the unknown land. I, not being the type of person to show her fear, kept calm and decided to stay where I was. Hours had past and it was getting dark. My body shivered as the temperature dropped quickly. “S-stupid Uchiha boy…” I had grumbled, pulling my knees to my chest. My breath was leaving little puffs of smoke in the air. Suddenly, I heard footsteps running somewhere in the distance. I had jolted upward to see who it was, but it was too dark to see. WHOOSH! Someone went flying past me. Gasping, I had yelled, “HEY!...” The person stopped momentarily and spun around. In the darkness, the person looked a lot like Itachi, but was a deal shorter; around my height. I huffed at him. “…What?” the boy had asked me. My shivering was growing worse. I bit my lip and warm liquid came out. Blood. “I’m…lost.” I stated awkwardly. Even though it was dark, I could see a smirk plastered on his pale face. Without another word, he ran opposite to my direction. My eyes widened, but, desperate, I followed him. Unable to see where I was going, I listened for his footsteps against the wet, leafy forest. Eventually, I was able to block out my own splosh, splosh, sploshing footsteps to figure out his direction. When I was back at the Uchiha Estate, the boy was gone, but that didn’t matter. My father hadn’t appeared so drained of color before in his lifetime. He quickly mumbled something to Fugaku-san, whose eyes were on my wet and cold disposition. “So,” Fugaku had said to me that night. “You are Kotori Moku-san? Your father has spoken of you with me many times.” I nodded understandingly. “I must ask, how did you manage to get out of the woods so easily? You had never ventured so far before; always in my wife and my yard.” “I got help.” I had stated confidently. “From a boy, who appeared to be Itachi, though was shorter and seemed of a different age. Much more of my own age, it appeared.” His father smiled at me, though I had no idea why. When I peered at my father, he was smiling as well, but to Fugaku-san instead, who had faced him. At the time I had no idea why. Now, I realized it had been Sasuke. Back to reality, I noticed I had been staring at him with eyes wider than saucers. This caused my face to turn beet red. The boy’s countenance went from bored and apathetic to utterly bemused. “Hey.” He said in a casual tone. Slowly I lifted my hand and waved at him. “Can’t you talk?” He asked me, a smirk on his almost perfect lips. I shook my head and held up a notebook and pen. He nodded at me. Before he could further the conversation, I made a break toward the door and flew outside followed by Temari, Gaara, and Hinata. When I turned to face them, Temari was laughing so hard I thought she’d begin crying as well. I raised my eyebrow. “I would tell you, but then you’d kill me!” she yelled, muffling her laughter leaving me confused. “Anyway, what do you feel like doing today? We don’t have classes or anything so…” she paused, waiting for the others to get outside too. “Let’s all meet in Hinata, Moku, and my room and we’ll all come up with a game plan of what to do!!” While no one seemed up to doing anything, we all ended up back at our dorm. We were all just sitting around throwing ideas back and forth. In the end, we came up with touring the whole campus. Temari explained that they had a lot of things to offer if we were willing to walk around all over the place. Sakura and Ino were a little reluctant, but agreed when they found out Sasuke was coming along too. “This is gonna be fun, huh Mo-chan?” Kiba yelled, throwing his arm around me. I spun around to face him with a blush on my cheek. “Yeah! We’re going to have a blast!” Naruto yelled, jumping between us. I laughed and nodded. I quickly grabbed my notebook and pen off the kitchen counter and grabbed a black hoodie to wear over my grey and sky-blue camisole. As we headed to the door, the intercom came to life and Shizune’s voice caught our attention. She explained to us the school store was now open for business and that everything we would need should be there. However, since no one had anything, it was an every-dorm-room-for-itself situation. Hearing this, Temari grabbed Hinata’s and mine wrists and, while screeching something about buying every last thing in the store so no one else could get anything , made a beeline for the stairs (knowing, of course, that most of the people would be taking the elevator like before). “You heard the woman!” Temari yelled impatiently as Hinata and I became dead weight behind her. “It’s every dorm fro itself! We have to get living essentials before everyone buys it all!” Gasping for air, we nodded and tried our best to keep up with our speedy friend. It was our luck that the store was at almost the complete opposite side of the campus. By the time we reached it, Hinata and I were almost dead from exhaustion, and hundreds of students could be seen rampaging through the store. “Damn it!” Temari yelled. “Juniors and Seniors got here before us!” She grumbled to herself as she dragged Hinata and me in the building with her. At that moment, I was thankful that I was not claustrophobic like some of the people in my family, for it was jam-packed in that department store. Temari pulled out an extra-large carriage and ordered me to sit inside it. I cocked my head to the side, but when her eyes starting shooting daggers at me, I followed what she ordered of me. Without hesitation, I leaped into the iron barred carriage and soon Hinata joined me. Without any warning what-so-ever, Temari flew down different aisles; throwing everything from food to bed spread to anything decorative to even a television in their. We became aware of why we were in the carriage – so Temari could start her own riot trying to get everything in record time. By the time we had finished shopping, Hinata and I were crushed to the bottom. “Hey dudes,” Temari questioned, “are you guys okay?” I could hear Hinata trying to mumble that we were fine, but it came out sounding distorted. Hopefully Temari could get the clue that we didn’t like having heavy objects squishing us. “Don’t worry, I’m at the register and paying for this so you better be thanking me!” After she paid, I could feel the carriage moving at a vigorous speed back to our dorm room. This time we took the elevator not only because of how difficult it would be to pull a carriage up stairs, but also because most of the students were still at the store. When I heard our door click open, I began to squirm around; my way of telling Temari to get all the things off of us so I could breathe finally. She understood and hastily lifted the television off of us and placed it in the corner of the room. Hinata and I moved the decorations and food off of us and sprung out of the carriage and onto the couch. While Temari worked on trying to set up the new TV, Hinata and I placed all the cold food in the fridge and the rest in the pantry. After that, we placed the new plates, silverware, and other cooking utensils in cabinets and drawers. Finally, when the TV was set up and everything put away, we decorated the two rooms with whatever Temari decided to buy. Hinata stared at a container that sat in front of her. “W-What’s…the p-paint for?” she stuttered and I peered out of the corner of my eye at the blue paint. “Oh!” Temari gasped as she ran to the bucket. “Damn! I was going to paint the bedroom blue to match the sheets for our three beds! God, I forgot all about that! Too late now…” She was right; we already basically decorated the walls with everything from pictures to bulletin boards to a few clocks and other decorative pieces. I grabbed for my notebook that had been thrown to the ground when Temari had rushed Hinata and I out of the room. I wrote, “‘Tis okay, Temari. When your dormitory is rebuilt, you can paint your room blue.” Temari sent me a wild smile and nodded. Now that our dorm was all finished, the three of us decided to just settle down and take a long break. Being that it was also getting dark out, we couldn’t have our wondrous tour around the campus. There was a knock on our door not long later and slips of paper were sent under the door. Temari jumped up in excitement and ran for the papers; leaving Hinata and I confused. She explained that they were our schedules for the year and handed us each a slip of paper. For this semester, I had Biology with Asuma-sensei, Culinary with Iruka-sensei, English with Kurenai-sensei, and P.E. with Gai-sensei. Hinata stared at me patiently until I handed her my schedule. Her face lit up and told me Biology and Culinary together and I literally jumped for joy. We focused our attention toward Temari, who exclaimed that she would also be in our culinary course. We all vowed to work together tomorrow in cooking class. The day ended on a relaxing note; Hinata went to bed early for she was starting to develop a headache, and Temari raided the refridgerator and cooked up some rice with chicken for the two of us and a bowl of soup for Hinata in case she got hungry (though I wasn’t sure how soup made headaches go away). When Temari told me she too was going to hit the hay, I waved her goodnight and watched as she left. When I was sure neither her or Hinata would be coming back out into the living room, I pulled out my journal that I had snuck into my luggage. Grabbing my purple pen, I began to write about that day: Dearest Diary, Today was very… interesting. I met a lot of nice people. Gaara was the first person I met; he’s really quiet like me. He has a sister – Temari – and they’re almost nothing alike at all. Oh, and he has a brother too but I don’t really know him very much. Also, I found out Hinata is enrolled here too and me, her and Temari are sharing a dorm together (that is, until they fix the Junior Building. Did you know they allow bombs at this school???). Anyways, then I saw Itachi again (not cool at all!) and he took Chika-chan!! I was really scared but then a little puppy named Akamaru came and his owner Kiba. They made me feel better, but it was a boy named Naruto who rescued my damsel in distress. Then, Itachi and his crew of evil people (except for one; Tobi was it? He was WEIRD.) left and Kiba and Naruto ran off too. That’s when I found my dorm and met up with Hinata again!! I was really happy to see her. Later, Temari came and when we were headed to the Assembly Hall for a Introduction Ceremony thingy she introduced me to a lot of people. They were Naruto (whom I had already met kinda), Sasuke, Sakura, Ino, Shikamaru, Choji, Kiba (whom I also had met), and Shino. OH YEAH! Do you remember that boy from when I was at the Uchiha estates with Daddy?? The one who [unknowingly?] led me out of the forest? Whoops, I didn’t have my diary then… well, anyways that boy was SASUKE! *insert gasp here* So yeah… It was really weird. I wonder if he remembers me…? >.> that would be pretty weird… I also just got my schedule. Temari, Hinata and I had Culinary together! I’m so excited. All in all… this has probably been one of the best days for a long time Tomorrow… shall be very fun too (I hope…) Love, Moku *End-Chapter 4*(I'm putting Chapter 5 on cause it's the actual start of the better chapters lol)

CHAPTER 5!!!!!! (from this point on, they are all stuff I've recently written, thus better than the other chapters by default lol) Moku's POVBRRING! BRRING! BRRING! Groaning, I threw my only pillow over my head. Next to me, I heard Hinata falling off her bed in sheer fear of the alarm clock. A few seconds later, I heard something pounding against it and my eyes flew open. Temari had a kitchen knife in her hands and was stabbing the poor clock to death. Wow, second day here, and we already need a new alarm clock. This is surely going to be an interesting day. And, god was I correct. Problem number one occurred only moments after Temari mutilated our alarm clock. The three of us all needed to take a shower and use the bathroom, however with there only being one bathroom that posed for some issues. Don’t get me wrong, I know we’re all girls and stuff so it shouldn’t be awkward but people like Hinata and I weren’t exactly the most comfortable showering with other people; especially if those other people were females (not that showering with a guy wouldn’t be awkward as well). Temari raised an eyebrow at Hinata and I, who proclaimed that we were just going to wash each others hair in the sink like at a beauty salon and then we’d take only half as long to wash our bodies. Temari was hesitant, but when she saw that we were being one hundred percent serious, she shrugged her shoulders and headed for the shower. We didn’t it let it show, but Hinata and I envied her. “Are you guys done yet?” Temari yelled to Hinata and I. Hinata was just about dressed with her hair all blow-dried and her clothes neat but I still needed to brush out my hair and get my makeup on. When asked, I told Hinata to go eat; that I’d be out in a second. I hastily brushed out my hair with a comb and put some mousse in it to keep it from frizzing and then quickly applied some foundation and powder. I stared at my eyeliner and then mascara; trying to decide the more important. My stomach answered for me. It’s answer? Neither; just get some freakin’ food. When I rushed out of the bedroom, the smell of burnt food hit me like no other; problem number two. Burnt toast, burnt eggs, burnt waffles, and was that a hint of burnt milk? That’s impossible… “Ehehe…” Temari chuckled. “Kinda messed up…” I bit my lip as my stomach growled louder than before. Hinata was picking up some of the burnt food while Temari was scrapping something that was emanating black smoke. “Wha-What should we d-do?” Hinata questioned once everything was picked up. I opened up the fridge and grabbed myself an apple with my left hand, and my notebook and pen with my right. Shoving the apple in my mouth, I fetched Chika-chan and set her atop my head where she would be staying (I hope…!). The two shrugged and Hinata grabbed herself an apple while Temari snagged a pear. The three of us grasped our book bags, where I plopped in my notebook and pen, and we were out the door in a stampede; yes, late on our first day. To make matters worse, our “private” staircase was overflowing with people; a sign that even the elevator was crammed. That was make problem number three. “Well, let’s see…” Temari mumbled. “We could always jump out the window, but you over here –” She pointed to me. “– I don’t think that’s such a swell idea for you, being as you lived most of your life with normal people.” For some reason, hearing her say that made me feel somber; knowing I was only partly like them. Sure, I knew some jutsu but I could never be a full-fledge ninja like the rest of them. I was like… an orange in a grapevine. “I mean, of course you could just go on my back and I’d jump down that way…” Behind us, I could hear a few familiar voices. “Naruto!” A female voice shouted. “You’re so stupid, you know that? Well, now you do!” I spun around to see Naruto, Sasuke, Kiba, Sakura, and Shino walking toward us; not knowing we were there. “I cannot believe you broke the elevator! Now what are we going to do?” I watched as Naruto scratched the back of his head before he answered. “Take the stairs?” he mumbled, scared of Sakura’s reaction I’m guessing. Her face turned bright red. “Idiot!” she screamed, grumbling as she walked toward us; finally noticing Temari, Hinata, and I watching the scene. “Oh, hi Temari, Hinata, umm Moku.” It took her a second to remember my name, but when she did she sent us a bright smile. “Ohayo!” “HEY! It’s that mute –” Kiba slapped Naruto across the face. “HEY WHAT WAS…? Oh, whoops! Sorry Moku-chan, I didn’t mean to…” he sent me a sheepish grin which I returned with a forgiving smile. “Oh, and hi Temari! Hey Hinata!” I was going to wave back when suddenly someone was next to me with there arm around my shoulder. “Ohayo Mo-chan!” Kiba yelled in my ear. I blinked for a second, trying to regain my hearing, but when I did he added (also yelling, of course), “What classes you in?” I handed him my schedule and him and Naruto both looked it over. Their faces light up as they looked at my schedule for this semester. “I have you in my Biology and my English class!” “We have P.E together!!” Naruto yelled happily before grabbing Hinata’s schedule. “Awesome, we have History together! Believe it!” Hinata smiled at the excited boy in front of us. I peered over at where Sasuke stood and he was looking down the hallway toward the entrance of the staircase; completely entranced by something. Around our group, the masses began to die down as the clock ticked away. There were only a few people in the long hallway of rooms, but the eight of us could still hear all the yelling and screaming from the staircase. Once again, Temari brought up the ‘jumping out the window’ idea and everyone thought about it for a few minutes before the first bell rang; jolting everyone from their thoughts. “Damn it!” Temari screamed as she hoisted me on her back and jumped out the window, followed by everyone else. With me on her back still, and very frightened I might add, we ran full-speed toward the main building where all our classes, apart from P.E, would be held. With a whoosh we were through the two large entrance doors and plowing through students after students until we reached the freshman hallways. Temari dropped me off and I fell to the floor, completely and utterly relieved that that had ended. She instructed to us that our lockers were down this aisle and the one directly above, and that the classrooms were only a hallway away. She told us to hurry before the late bell rang or we’d get a “warning” which is the only warning you get before a detention. Not something you want on your first day of school. “Moku, w-where is y-your locker?” Hinata asked. I pointed upward, my way of simply explaining that it was in the upstairs hallway. “O-Oh… mine i-is d-down here…” I frowned in her direction, for this was not fair in either of our minds. She frowned back at me, but turned away to look for her locker in haste. I nodded to myself and ran up the stairs to the hallway above. Once I reached the top of the stairs, I could hear slow footsteps trudging along behind me. I twirled around to see Sasuke climbing up the stairs with speed no faster than a turtle’s. Quickly, I slid down the hallway to find my own locker. Peering around, I noticed that mine was next to a girl with blonde hair’s locker. She looked familiar so I stared at her for a second before opening my locker and cramming my gym clothes and English stuff in there. The girl turned to face me just as I closed my locker. “Hey, I know you!” the girl yelled, pointing a finger at me. I scrunched my brow. “You’re that Moku chick who just came to Konoha from some normal place! And you were hitting on Sasuke-kun!” My face flushed red as I shook my head, trying to tell her that it was not like that at all. “Oh yeah, and you mute too! You can’t talk to anyone because you don’t talk at all! Stupid!” I looked down at my shoes, not meeting anyone’s eyes. Suddenly, a boy with a ponytail – who also looked quite familiar… - came up to us. “Ino,” he grumbled, staring at the two of us. That’s right; her name was Ino Yamanaka. “Leave the poor girl alone. God, you’re so troublesome all the time.” Ino gaped at him, looking as though she wished to start a fight with him. “She started it!” Ino yelled, pointing her finger at me again. I wanted so bad to bite it and watch her scream in pain. Little bi- “Come on Shikamaru, who are you going to believe? Me – your teammate for forever and the daughter of you father’s teammate as well – or some normal girl you’ve never met!” Oh yeah, he was Shikamaru Nara. He looked between us both. “God, you’re so troublesome Ino. What a drag.” He walked off, leaving Ino screaming after him. I took this as a chance to escape, but she turned around and slapped me across the face; sending Chika-chan flying to the other side of the hall. “You ever flirt with Sasuke-kun again, and you’ll be sorry!” she hissed, bitterness dripping from her words. The area she slapped stung and when I went to touch it after she stomped away, I could feel my blood boiling. I wasn’t like them at all. I knew how to control my chakra pretty well and I could do a few jutsu as well, but in the long run, I was nothing like my classmates. I don’t know how I could have ever been accepted here but the school board when (where ninja skills go) I was much below them. It didn’t make any sense to me. Looking around the hallway, most everyone was scurrying to their classes. I saw Sasuke slam his locker door shut and it caused me to jump from the loud noise. And, oh god, he heard that whole conversation. I gulped and spun on my heels so I could make a beeline down the stairs to find Hinata and head for Biology. Of course, he had to go the same way though. There was an uncomfortable silence between us; at least, it was to me. He was a few paces behind me and I was too frightened to turn around and write everything that took place in my notebook so he wouldn’t think I “liked him or flirted with him” because I really don’t even know him at all. However, I was afraid that Ino would see this and harass me all over again so I just kept walking. He didn’t seem like the talkative type anyway so he probably wouldn’t do anything even if I did explain myself. “M-M-Moku!” I turned my head to see Hinata running up to me, stuttering nonsense. “Y-Your cheek…! W-What happened?” My eyes drifted to the right and I was about to write the story of what happened in my notebook but Sasuke beat me to it. “Ino had another moment.” He mumbled, walking by us. Hinata’s eyes widened as she stared between us. “O-Oh my! Are y-you okay?” she asked. I just nodded as she grabbed my wrist and towed me toward the Biology room. I watched as Sasuke entered the room across the hall, followed by Ino who did the “I’ll slit your throat” gesture, and Naruto who waved frantically at me. I sent him a half smile back. When we entered the Bio room, most of the tables were taken besides two unoccupied ones. Hinata and I darted to the one on the right which was in front of Kiba and Shino’s desk. On the other side of the room, I could see Gaara sitting next to a terrified-looking girl. I caught Gaara’s eye and he sent a little wave towards me. I smiled and sent one back, confusing Hinata because she didn’t know who I was gesturing to. The teacher was a little late, but when he did come in the first thing that caught my eye was the cigarette dangling from his mouth. My eyes went wide and I had to turn away. “Hello class,” the teacher snatched the cigar out of his mouth to speak. “My name is Sarutobi-san. I will be teaching you everything and anything Biology for the semester. If you have any questions, speak now.” He returned the cigar back to his mouth as a few hands shot up in the air. They were mostly questions like “how much homework would we be getting?” (a lot) and “were we going to have to take a midterm?” (of course) and “are you going to be smoking all class period?” (every day). For the remainder of the 90 minute class, he basically talked about what we were expected to do and what he expected of us as his students, etc, etc, etc. I could tell this was going to be a boring class right off, even though I liked learning about the human body and stuff. I was not looking forward to this. “To end the class period, I’m going to go around the classroom and ask for you’re name and ask you a random question that you must answer.” I gulped. This is going to be quite interesting. He went around the room, asking everything random questions like their favorite color or what they wanted to do when they got older and stuff like that. When he got to Hinata, I tensed. “You’re name?” “Hinata Hyuga!” She answered, visibly nervous. “Who is your best friend?” I smiled when I heard her answer that it was me. Sarutobi-san removed his gaze from her and turned to me. “You’re name?” It was silent when I showed him the notebook page the said “MOKU KOTORI” in big block letters; something I had been working on all class period. He blinked when he saw this and looked me up and down. With a blank face, he asked me with utmost seriousness, “So, you are the girl the whole staff crew was told about by Principle Tsunade-san? The otherwise completely normal child who visited here every day with her ninja father, but usually home with her normal mother? You my dear are the hybrid between a ninja father and normal mother?” I bit my lip. What happened to the simple ‘What’s your favorite color?’ question? Not that this wasn’t an easy enough question to answer. “Yes I am.” I wrote on a new page in my messy, swirly script. *End- Chapter 5*
Finally – now she is in her first class!! Sorry for the huge, long exposition… now that I’ve basically told a lot of information on everyone the story should go along quick and not so drawn out.

Moku’s POV
I was sure, after Hinata, Kiba, Shino, and I had left the Biology room, that it would be my least favorite class; which was sort of depressing whereas I wanted to be a medical ninja here and not one that went around doing missions. I sighed, knowing that if my friends weren’t in my class, I probably wouldn’t bother going to it from this point on. Okay, that was a lie; my mother would kill me and I’d be ashamed of myself. Once we were out of the room, I looked back to see Gaara walking alone back towards the lockers. I kept watching him until Kiba asked if something was the matter. I turned back to him and held up my pointer finger to them; signaling them to wait a second. Running as fast as I could without being caught, I quickly reached Gaara’s stroll. He peered at me.
“Hey Moku-san,” he mumbled; apathy drowning his words like when I’d first met him. However, there was a sort of kindness toward them and by the looks of the other’s faces a few meters away, him even speaking to me was a sort of miracle to them. When I turned back toward Gaara, he was beginning to walk away again.
Once again, I strolled up to him and showed him my schedule. He stared at it for a second before taking it in his hands. He studied all the classes before handing it back to me. “It seems,” he murmured in the same tone of voice, “that we have all of the same classes this semester.” My eyes lit up and a smile stretched from ear to ear as he told me the good news. He sent me a half smile and a gasp could be heard all around us. Looking around, I saw a few people whispering and I scrunched my eyebrows together in confusion. When I turned back to give him the same questioning look, he was already half way down the hall and at his locker. This time I decided not to chase after him.
Kiba was staring at me with the widest eyes when I reached my three flabbergasted friends. “Did Gaara just flippin’ smile at you?” he yelled as we began walking again and I cocked my head to the side; not understanding the importance of a smile. “Mo-chan, don’t look at me like that!” I grabbed out my notebook and wrote, “Like what?” on it and Kiba groaned and looked away from me. Shino, someone who I had just begun to talk to and who I guess was good friends with both Kiba and Hinata, added in, “He’s just jealous. And he, along with half the students in the hallway, thinks you and Gaara-san have a ‘thing’.” I lifted my eyebrows at the two males and then turned to a giggling Hinata who I’m sure found enjoyment in the little banter.
“I’m not jealous!” Kiba yelled in Shino’s face and then crossing his arms over his chest. “I’m just worried about my poor Mo-chan’s safety! Don’t you know he’s dangerous?” I scowled at Kiba’s remark about Gaara and turned away from him in annoyance.
“Oh look,” Shino muttered to his loud friend. “Now you’ve done it. All your chance with Moku-san are down the drain.” Kiba started yelling again but Shino then added, “Denial is a silly thing to be in. Come on, Kiba, we need to go to Computer…” He then grabbed Kiba around the waist and hoisted him over his shoulders while Kiba growled and yelled at him to put him down. Hinata laughed until the two boys were out of sight. Then, she turned to look at me.
“S-So is it t-true?” Hinata asked as we entered the Culinary room. “D-Do you like G-Gaara-san?” When we walked in, the first people to catch my eye were Sasuke, Ino, Shikamaru, and Choji. Ino was flaunting toward Sasuke and the bitter taste of anguish filled my mouth. My eyes went really wide as I felt the top of my head.
There was nothing there.
My hand flew to my mouth and I began to shake. Chika-chan! I had been so distracted by what had happened with Ino that when she had slapped me and Chika-chan went flying, I forgot to pick her up. Hinata noticed my sudden reaction and quickly said, “O-Oh no, t-that’s not a b-bad thing! Y-You can l-like him if you w-want!” I grasped my pen in my hand and fumbled with as I wrote, “It’s not that! Chika-chan! I don’t have Chika-chan! She’s back in the upstairs hallway near my locker when Ino flipped at me and she went flying off my head and…” I wasn’t able to finish writing because something furry was plopped on my head. I looked up and a stuffed cat fell into my arms. My lip quivered as I spun around to face my savior. Tears weld up in my eyes.
“She was on the floor.” Gaara told Hinata and I. “I remembered you carrying her around yesterday.” Overjoyed, I threw my arms around him and cried; so thankful that he’d found Chika-chan and that she was unharmed. Gaara was truly the greatest friend you could ask for. Except, he didn’t seem to know exactly how to react to this gesture because he stood where he was frozen like a statue. Of course, now everyone was staring at us like in the hallway and I knew this time what was running through their minds. I let go of Gaara and peered up at him; mouthing a ‘thank you’. He nodded toward me and headed toward an empty table. Hinata looked at me with a smile on her face as she petted the rescued stuffed kitten. Around us, the whispering ceased and everyone was talking like usually. Hinata looked back into my eyes as we headed to our own table near Sasuke, Ino, Shikamaru, and Choji. Ino and Sasuke were sharing a table – much to Sasuke’s dismay – and Shikamaru and Choji were sharing the table to their right. Hinata and I took the table to the left of Sasuke and Ino’s.
“S-So…” Hinata began and I looked at her, “d-do you?” I blinked, not understanding until she pointed at Chika-chan. My lips formed an “O” shape; signifying that I understood. I shook my head and Hinata looked behind me. Spinning around, we saw that the others were watching us; not exactly understanding what just happened. I sent them a half smile, while eye Ino out of the corner of my eye as she was latched onto Sasuke and had her tongue sticking out at me. Shikamaru put his head in one head and mumbled, “God Ino, must you be so troublesome? I can’t believe you’re in half of my classes this semester; what a drag.” Ino spun around to gape at the pony-tailed boy.
“Shikamaru’s right,” everyone turned their attention to Choji who was eating some chips. When he swallowed, he added, “You’re always so mean and you can start a lot of drama…”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Ino yelled, glaring daggers at the two boys. They both looked at each other, smiling, and that just made Ino even madder.
“Exactly what we said,” Shikamaru explained to the blond. Ino growled at them and hugged Sasuke closer. He tried to pull his arm away, but to no prevail. He looked away from everyone and stared angrily at the clock. Seeing as class just started, he’d have a long wait to get away from her.
“Good morning class!” a familiar looking man walked into the room. “My name is Umino Iruka-san. Most of you should know me since I used to teach in the elementary school before being appointed here. For the next few months, you will be put into groups of three or four and will be assigned different jobs to perform and recipes to try. You guys, as well as the class before yours, are in charge of the lunch for the day while anyone with Culinary for their last two classes are in charge of the school bakery where we will be selling dessert treats daily and holiday foods when necessary. It is expect that you work your best in this class since in the end you and your classmates will have to eat it. You may come in at anytime throughout the year to cook as long as there is a teacher, preferably myself, in the room. Without further ado, I will start attendance and put everyone in there group. Just yell “Hai!” if you are here, or raise your hand.” He looked at me when he said the last part which let me know that he knew who I was. Now that I think about it, I think I talked to him the first day I arrived…
After attendance, Iruka stood at the front of the room and called out the groups. “Okay, the next group is Moku-san…” My head perked up as I heard my name. Next to me, I felt Hinata tense; worried that we may not be in the same group. “…Ino-san…” Our eyes went wide and I heard a snicker coming from Sasuke and Ino’s table. I’ll give you one guess on who it is. “…and Hinata-san.” Hinata let out her breath and we smiled at each other. Sure, we had Ino in our group, but we also have each other and that’s all that matters. “The next group is Sasuke-san…Shikamaru-san…Choji-san…and Gaara-san. Okay, is that everybody?”
“Wait!” everyone turned to the door where we saw a panting Temari leaning against the door. “Sorry I’m late; I have a pass. Jiraiya needed some of us to stay longer to help clean up; some kid puke their guts out.” Iruka looked at the tired girl with a raised brow.
“Are you sure you’re in this class, Temari-san?” he asked, reading over his attendance list. He hadn’t called her when he listed off the names.
“What reasons do you have not to trust me?” Temari answered, flipping through her things to find her schedule as proof. Iruka raised an eyebrow at her. “Okay, so I’ve over exaggerate a little bit… And maybe I have one or two loud parties… but that doesn’t mean you can’t trust me!” Iruka wrote some notes on the attendance list and went to call someone – most likely the office – to see if what Temari was telling him was true (even though she was waving her schedule in his face).
“Okay…okay, thank you…. Yup, goodbye.” Iruka hung up the phone and we watched as he scrawled Temari’s name on the sheet of paper. “Okay, it seems there’s been a mistake in the system. Yes, you are in fact in this class and I’m sorry for having doubted you.”
Temari grinned. “That’s okay, Iruka-sensei I forgive you. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I would like to join the same group as Moku-chan and Hinata-chan.” She spun around on her heel and headed toward us. Much to our surprise, Iruka didn’t stop her; he just added her to our group. Our eyes lit up as Temari stood between us.
Who cares if we have Ino in our group? Temari, Hinata, and I are all together and that’s all that matters.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Correction. I do care.
Having Ino in our group was bad, sure, but when Temari and Ino are together, there’s only havoc. Temari wanted to do things her way, and Ino wanted to do it her way. Of course, Hinata and I, not wanting any part of it, just sit there watching them as they fight. “S-Should we d-do something?” Hinata asked me, but I just shrugged my shoulders. What could we do? Hinata didn’t know how to use her Byakugan to its full potential and she was shy, and I could barely do anything fighting-wise and I couldn’t talk. If anything, we’d just end up being in the middle and getting hurt which is not what I plan on doing.
“Idiot!” Temari shouted as Ino started cooking ‘her way’. “My god, you’re such a little brat, you know? Hasn’t your mother ever told you to listen to your sempai?” Ino stared Temari right in the eye and stuck her tongue out.
“I can do whatever I want!” Ino yelled back. “It’s a free country!” Under her breath, she mouthed, “Stupid Suna ninja don’t know anything…” I sighed. At this rate, whereas there’s only twenty more minutes and we haven’t even started steaming yet. Our dish was one of the choice desserts: Kushidango, or sweet dumplings on bamboo skewers. It wasn’t even that hard a dish to prepare, but with Ino and Temari butting heads it’s almost impossible to start making some. Actually, Ino and Temari were so into their fight I don’t think they even were paying attention to food. They weren’t even near our area! Taking this chance, I sprinted over to grab some joshinko, sugar, and katakuriko, and sent Hinata to the faucet to grab a bottle of water, soy sauce, and bamboo skewers. When we arrived back, Temari and Ino were still fighting so we took this as a chance to start making the dish. After our twenty minutes were over, Hinata and I had successfully made at least thirty dumplings. Obviously, there wasn’t enough to feed the school, but at least we made something. When Iruka reached us, he looked down at our food with a smile. “Good job girls, I knew you guys could do it!” Temari and Ino turned to Iruka.
“Huh?” they said in harmony. Iruka laughed.
“The Kushidango!” He said with a grin. “You guys did awesome. Though, you don’t seem to have too many but they look delicious!” Temari and Ino looked down at the dumplings in confusion. Hinata and I suppressed a laugh as we watched the two of them in their state of confusion.
Suddenly, the intercom buzzed to life. “Hello everyone!” there was a pause where Tsunade I guess expected everyone to say hi back. “Okay, it isn’t written on your schedules, but lunch is at this time – 11:00 – every day. Thank you!” The intercom clicked off.
“C-Come on, Moku-chan!” Hinata said, grabbing my arm. “We have t-to g-get a table b-before everyone t-takes them all!” I stared at her in confusion as we ran out of the room with our books in our hands. Chika-chan almost flew off my head but I quickly caught her and held her in my arms. I didn’t understand how true her words were until we got the cafeteria. And, oh my god, was it packed.
I was sure all the grades were in there because the cafeteria itself was huge. Peering around everywhere, I saw Naruto, Sakura, Kiba, and Shino at a table and Hinata made a beeline straight at them. In record time, Hinata and I made it to their table and took a seat.
“What took you guys so long?” Sakura asked, taking a bite of her Kare (Japanese curry) and watching us intently. Hinata and I were still panting as I wrote, “We were long? I thought we got here in record time, but I guess not…” Everyone laughed when they read what I’d written.
“Mo-chan!” Naruto yelled, receiving a glare from Kiba. “Obviously this place would be crowded by now! The seniors all make mad dashes here and always get here first so it’s all just a race to get a seat! And Kiba, what the hell is that look for?” Before Kiba could answer him, Shino butted in.
“He’s just angry that you’re using Moku-san’s pet name,” he answered and I blinked. Pet name? Do I look like a new dog or something?
“Speaking of Mo-chan!” Naruto yelled out. “Are you liking you’re time in Konoha? Oh, wait you haven’t ever been far out of the walls of the school… Well, I have the perfect idea! I think this weekend we should show you around town! You know, show you the hotspots like Ichiraku’s…”
“Baka!” A voice said behind me. “Ichiraku’s isn’t a ‘hotspot’! More like a stupid, greasy fast food place!” Naruto groaned and Sakura glared at whoever was behind me. Hinata and I turned around to see Ino on the back of a very agitated Sasuke. Behind them stood Choji and Shikamaru talking amongst themselves, but they were too quiet for me to hear.
“Get off of poor Sasuke-kun, pig!” Sakura yelled at Ino.
“You shut up, billboard, you’re not even in this conversation!” Ino yelled back.
While their yelling continued, everyone else went silent. Finally, even Sakura and Ino fell silent. I didn’t understand why until I turned around and was face to face with Itachi. My eyes went wide and I held Chika-chan close. A little smirk was on his lips. “I’m not here to take your precious Chika-chan.” I gulped and grabbed my notebook, not allowing him to finish.
“Then why are you acting so sneaky and hiding behind me?” I wrote and show the page to him. He read it silently and smiled a little.
“We would like to talk to you. Alone.” Before I could disagree or write anything in retort, Itachi was already dragging me away from my table much to the dismay of my friends.
But… they didn’t come after me. And that made me well aware how frightful these gangster hooligans were.

^^ I forgot to write that ir was Chapter 6 up there XD Oh well, this is Chapter 7!! Moku’s POV Since my new friends were definitely not going to come to my rescue, I decided to just deal with the fact that Itachi was dragging me toward all the other gangster hooligans with matching clothes and all. Their clothing, however, was the only thing proving they were all together as a group. Otherwise, each and every one of them showed outwardly that they were different from personality to physical appearance. When Itachi and I reached the table, the occupants all looked up from whatever they were doing to look at us. A guy in an orange mask, the one I distinctively remember acting more like a five year old then someone about to graduate, jumped up from his seat to greet me. “Hi!” the masked man said to me, giving me a big hug. I let him hug me, but it felt awkward since I didn’t even know him. Behind me, I saw Itachi’s hand come out of no where and push the man down. “That’s Tobi-kun. He’s a baka.” I nodded my head and he continued by pointing everyone out. “That’s Deidara-kun, Sasori-kun, Hidan-kun, Kakezu-kun, Zetsu-kun, and Kisame-kun. Everyone, this is Moku-chan.” They looked me up and down just as I was to them. Finally, one stood up and walked forward. “Nice to meet you,” the boy named Deidara said to me, outstretching his hand. I took it, not expecting to have it end up being wet. A shiver few up my spine as he took back his hand and I saw that it had a mouth. A smirk quickly replaced his kind grin. “Just for the fun of it, what’s your opinion of art?” “Deidara-kun…” the man Itachi said was named Sasori mumbled. Funny, he did “Don’t even start with this…” I blinked, not understanding the conflict between them. When I looked up toward Itachi, his eyes were closed and he was shaking his head. “Ah, Sasori no Danna, come on!” Deidara yelled to the red head sitting furthest from us. “Unlike you, I respect other’s opinions of art, even if they’re not as good as my own. But seriously, Moku-chan, what’s your opinion?” His face was right up near mine and I could feel his breath hit my nose. What was I suppose to tell? Obviously, he takes art seriously, but I’ve never really cared for art to be honest. How was I supposed to let an art-obsessed senior know that I don’t care for the subject? Then, I realized I forgot my notebook at my table so I couldn’t answer him anyway. Everyone, but Itachi was giving me a weird look because I still didn’t answer them. I scrunched my eyebrows, not knowing what to do when I saw a napkin and a pen on the table. With a grin, I walked by Deidara and Tobi, who had finally gotten up, and grabbed the pen in my hands and wrote, “I don’t really have a preference. However, if the artwork has some sort of meaning to it, I like it more.” on the napkin. Showing everyone the napkin, they all read it over but no one said anything. Finally, as if the voice for everyone, Tobi shouted, “Why don’t you just say that, Moku-chan?” I bit my lip, not knowing the best way to explain myself. “She has a sore throat right now,” Itachi said in my defense, though I could tell no one believed the lie. Well, nobody but one person. “Sempai, she needs a doctor!” Tobi shouted at Deidara while he had a surprisingly strong hold on my arm. Deidara glared at the crazed man. “Hurry!” When he didn’t budge, Tobi made a break for the doors without him. I screamed out in pain as I felt my shoulder being pulled out of its socket; my voice was high pitch and it broke in the middle of my screaming. Suddenly, Tobi let go and was looking at me and a bunch of people were around me and Tobi. I could hear Hinata next to me, but I was too busy screaming to take notice of what she was yelling. Someone above me finally slapped their hand over my mouth; silencing my screams. “M-Moku-chan, w-what did he d-do?” Hinata asked, holding my arm. Tears were streaming down my face from the pain and I was too busy trying to figure out whose hand it was on my mouth then anything else. However, I had nothing to write with anyway so trying to explain what happened would be near impossible. Following the hand and up the arm of my silencer, I saw that it was Itachi. In front of me, I saw Naruto and Kiba flipping out at Tobi and all around me I could hear people, both people I did and didn’t know, asking if I was okay. My shoulder was shooting excruciating pain through my body and the waterworks wouldn’t cease. Thank god I’d decided not to wear eye makeup. Suddenly, someone crouched down in front of me. “Hey,” Sasuke mumbled, looking over my sadistic appearance. I stared at his coal black eyes while he watched me. “Itachi, hold her still so I can push her arm back in its socket.” My eyes went wide; I knew the only thing that hurt worse then popping a body part out of its socket was the moment when it’s popped back in. Staring at him with fear in my eyes, I struggled a bit with Itachi who still only had his hand over my mouth. Bad idea; I started screaming again though it was muffled. Sasuke quickly grabbed my arm and wriggled it around to get the joint back into place, but it only hurt worse and I screamed much louder. Unable to take it, I lunged forward and bit Itachi’s hand just as Sasuke popped it back into place. Itachi cussed and shook his bleeding hand while I just laid on the floor with my head leaning against Sasuke’s leg, moaning in pain from having my head hit the ground. Hinata gasped behind me and was at my aid in a second. “A-Are you o-okay, Moku-chan?” Hinata asked with fright painting her face. I just stayed there on the ground groaning and moaning in pain and I’m sure she took that as a ‘no’. Somewhere in front of me, I heard Kiba yell, “What the hell did you do to her, Sasuke?” He walked up to me in means to help me out, but then he accidently stepped on my hand. I screamed once again and quickly got into fetal position. What was today; Hurt Moku Day? At this point, a few teachers had come in and, after seeing me in pain on the ground, decided to bring me to the nurses office. From what I heard, everyone just went back to doing what they had been before while one teacher carried me to the nurse’s and another grabbed my stuff. Exhausted from what had just happened, I quickly fell into a light slumber. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* CRASH! My eyes flew open as I heard someone cussed. I peered around everywhere before I realized that I was in the Nurse’s Office now. Around my shoulder was some gauze and my face and head didn’t hurt anymore either. Looking around the room, I noticed a dark haired lady plucking pieces of glass out of a crash in her foot. When I got a better look at her, I noticed it was the vice principal Shizune. Slipping of my bed, I grabbed my notebook, Chika-chan, and school supplies but I didn’t go unheard. “Oh!” Shizune spun around to face me. “Hello, Moku-chan! How are you feeling? You were in pretty rough shape when you came in!” She laughed a little and I sent her a nervous smile. I quickly wrote, “Much better, but my shoulder is still a little sore.” After reading the message, she nodded toward me. “Not a surprise; you did a good doing on that shoulder of yours.” Shizune proclaimed. “But it was in much better shape then expected when you pop it out of its socket. Actually, for the most part the shoulder was popped back into place! But I’m sure it hurt and then you hit your head pretty hard as well and your hand looked like it’d been stepped on. Goodness, were you in a fight in the cafeteria? Not a good idea, especially since you aren’t a true ninja like everyone else in this school is.” I listened to her until she finished. Then I flipped over to the next page in my notebook. “Why was I accepted to this school when I’m not a ninja like the rest?” I wrote, showing Shizune the paper. She paused for a moment and reread the question numerous times before she sighed. “There is more than just physical strength and abilities,” Shizune began. “Well, we definitely look for that when accepting students here, but that’s not all. We consider who would succeed in other fields like mentally, and who has potential to make the nations prosper for the good. When we were considering you, we thought you’d be able to grow as a ninja with the help of other’s, but also grow within yourself.” So she knew. That means a lot of them knew, too. “We also asked some of the staff their opinions and a few of them claimed to have known you and automatically said yes.” I nodded, though I was confused since I’d never really met any of my teachers so far. How they had known me was a mystery. “Oh! But you should be getting to you’re last class of the day!” I lifted my brow. Last class? “My last class?” I wrote and after I showed her she laughed and pointed to the clock. It was five minutes to one. Wow, I slept awhile. That means I have P.E. Oh great, now that I have a hurt shoulder I’m expected to play some sport or do dodge ball or something… Not cool! I nodded toward her and we both waved and said our goodbyes, and I was off down the hall. It was hard remembering where to go to get back to my locker, but after I caught sight of the cafe, I knew that I just had to continue down the hall a little ways and I’d be in the freshmen hallways. It was still a little early so no one was out in the hallways yet. While heading up the stairs, I decided what I would and wouldn’t need. I came to the decision on only bringing my P.E clothing and leaving Chika-chan safe in the locker with all my other stuff. When I closed the door, I could hear people coming out of classrooms so I strolled around toward where I thought the gym would be. Okay, so I had no idea where I was going. Frantic and not wanting to be late, I ran up to the first man I saw. He had long black hair and pale white skin and eyes that looked like a snake’s. Regretting choosing to ask this man, I was about to just leave when the man asked, “Leaving so soon?” I paused in the middle of turning around to look at the creepy man in font of me. He had a smirk on his face and I wondered if he could see me squirm where I stood. “You looked like you needed to ask me something.” I gulped, but hesitantly took out my notebook. “Where’s the gym?” I wrote and showed him the page from where I took. He read it carefully and continued to smirk at me. “It’s just outside; once you leave the office just head northwest.” The man said. I nodded uneasily and left as swiftly as I could. He was definitely enjoying my fear, no doubt. “What is your name, dear?” the man suddenly was in front of me and I let out a little ‘yip’. My hands shook as I wrote my name in big block letters on the notebook page. With still that same smirk, the man said, “My name is Orochimaru; I teach woodshop. It will be a pleasure to have you in my class.” I gulped and nodded before going around him and heading down the stairway; slowly at first but when I was sure he wasn’t following me, I sprinted down the hall and out the door. The creep man, Orochimaru, hadn’t been lying about the location of the gym. It was in fact just a little ways northwest of the main building. Worried I was late, I hastily made my way toward the two large doors. I swung them open and was face to face with a large arena-looking area. The ground wasn’t just a normal basketball court outlined area, but had different aspects such as grassland one area, sand in another and a pond in one of the corners. Above the strange area was a black arena; probably the place to spar. Many familiar faces were either training in the designated areas or they were on the floor above. Suddenly, I heard someone call my name and I spun around to see Naruto heading straight at me; his arms open wide to give me a hug. Behind him, Sasuke, Shikamaru, Choji, and Gaara were coming toward us. “I thought they’d murdered you!” Naruto yelled, still embracing me. I winced; he was putting a lot of strain on my shoulder. “I’m gonna kill Sasuke and Kiba and that other kid, Tobi, for yeah, okay?” “Don’t hold your breath, Moku-chan,” Shikamaru said to me. “The day Naruto-kun kills them is the day I spout wings and fly off into the sunset.” I tried to imagine this, but failed. “I could so kill Sasuke!” Naruto yelled. “And Kiba and Tobi!” I sent them all a half smile. Not knowing what to do with the clothes in my hand, I quietly tossed them behind a boulder. Suddenly, a voice spoke behind me. “Hello, young girl!” the voice boomed and I spun around. “I am your P.E teacher, Might Gai! You must be Moku-chan, am I right?” The fact that so many people know my name was getting a little creeping. However, I still nodded my head and he went on with his spiel. “Okay! So, you, Moku-chan, aren’t exactly ninja-worthy at the moment, but I heard that you do you a few jutsu from you’re father? So you know basic chakra control?” I nodded again and Gai grinned. “Splendid! However, you’re in no shape to start sparring with anyone right now so I’m going to pair you up with someone to be your sensei for awhile…” He trailed off and looked around. While he did, I stared at his abnormally large eyebrows. Finally, he answered, “Okay! It’s been settled! You’re teacher will be…!” The man’s voice grew louder and louder as time went on and it was giving us a head ache. “Sasuke Uchiha-san!” Gai yelled. “Please come over here!” We looked at him like he was crazy (which he’s sort of acting like a weirdo if you ask me). “I’m right here…” Sasuke mumbled. Gai spun around and faced the young Uchiha with a grin. “Terrific!” he yelled and grabbed me by the shoulders; pushing me towards Sasuke. “Meet your new student!” Oh great, this can’t be good. *End- Chapter 7*

CHAPTER 8!! Moku’s POV It wasn’t like I was dreading having to work with Sasuke, but I surely wasn’t looking forward to it and I think we had mutual feelings toward that. They should just let me watch, whereas I have an injured shoulder and can’t do anything besides three clones. Sasuke on the other hand seemed like he was incredibly strong and I was just keeping him from sparring with opponents. Gai had told us to first train over in the grassland area since that was the easiest area for training. We nodded and Sasuke led the way to the greenery. I think the others were following us, but then Gai yelled at them to go to the top floor to spar. When I turned around, Naruto was groaning and complaining while Shikamaru and Choji were dragging him upstairs by the ear. I laughed and turned back around to see Sasuke waiting for me. Feeling bad, I ran the rest of the way; almost tripping over a rock. Stumbling a little, I finally reached Sasuke and grabbed out my notebook. I wrote, “Sorry about that,” and showed it to him. “Hn.” Was his only answer. I looked, down at my shoes, not sure what to do. He said, “Do you know basic jutsu?” I peered up at him and then quickly did a clone jutsu. Two clones appeared behind me and I stood there with them not sure what to do next. Sasuke studied the two clones, and then gave a quick nod and I made them disappear. He then asked if I could do anything else, which I wrote that I did not. He nodded again. After a few minutes of sheer silence, he left me there to discuss something with Gai. I scrunched my brow, thinking he was giving up on me already, but he soon came back and said, “Come on…” and led me to the door to outside. He led me to the tallest tree he could see and pointed to it. “Climb it.” I blink. Sounded easy enough. Just as I got ready to grab the truck he added, “Without your hands.” My eyes went wide with confusion and he chuckled. “It’s a chakra control exercise; focus all your chakra in your feet. See…” He made a hand sign and after a few seconds of concentrating, he opened his eyes and literally ran up the whole tree to one of the higher branches. I watched him in complete amazement; my mouth ajar. Unconsciously, I heard myself mumble in the softest voice, “W-Wow…” Then I slapped my hand over my mouth with my eyes wide open. I heard Sasuke jump down from the tree so I hastily regained composure, but after what had just happened it was difficult. Sure, no one had heard the quiet remark but I hadn’t even heard my voice in a long time. It was a quiet voice like Hinata’s and was soprano tone, much like a young child’s. However, even in that one word my voice had broke from lack of use. I gulped when Sasuke’s feet gracefully hit the ground. “Your turn.” He said nodding to the tree. I nodded quickly and he handed my a few kunai. “Mark where your last step hits.” I nodded again as he turned around to sit under a nearby tree. I gulped again, but closed my eyes and did the hand sign like Sasuke had. Trying desperate to remember what my father had taught me, I focused on my feet and putting chakra on the soles. When I thought I did enough, I opened my eyes and ran straight at the tree. I was only able to make it up a few steps before I felt my feet slipping beneath me. Grasping the kunai, I sliced a line where my foot had landed and fell down to the ground; landing on my back. I groaned in pain but looked up at where the mark was; it had to be up at least a few meters if not a little more. A smile grew on my lips and I sat up quickly to look at my mark. When I turned to Sasuke to see if he had any show of approval or praise, he was looking at the tree I was to climb. However, he turned to look at me and my grinning appearance and I thought I saw him chuckle a bit. My huge grin changed to a happy smile as I refocused; ready to try again. A long time had passed and I was still doing the same exercise over and over again to the point that it was more tiring to have to keep doing the same one then just being tired from all the chakra I’m using. Being as I don’t have as much as the other student’s here, this was becoming a little dangerous. Finally, Sasuke decided to ask if I wanted to stop, to which I replied with a quick shake of my head. This time… I’ll make it to the top! I did the hand sign and concentrated before running up the tree. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight…! I almost hit the top but my legs gave out and I hastily marked my next highest spot before plummeting down to the ground. When my side made contact with the dirt, I gasped out in pain and breathed heavily for air. My body faced toward Sasuke who was now walking toward me. Once he reached me, he sat on the ground in front of me. “I told you you’d overdo it.” He stated, looking in my tired eyes. I peered up at him, still gasping for air, but then I looked down and closed my eyes. Fatigue overwhelmed me; I don’t think I’ve ever been in such pain in my life. Suddenly, I felt myself being lifted off the ground and spun around a few times. My eyes shot open and I found myself on Sasuke’s back and he was walking back to the gym. When he noticed I’d opened my eyes, he grumbled, “I wasn’t just going to leave you there. Naruto and Kiba would have attempted murder.” I blinked and smiled a little; reclosing my eyes. Just as he walked into the room, Naruto’s voice was already ringing in my ears. “You killed her!” He shouted, sounding close by. “Moku-chan, wake up! Come on, don’t die!” I was suddenly taken off Sasuke’s back and being shaken so fast I thought I’d get whiplash. When it finally ended, my eyes were wide with terror and I was all shaken up, but Naruto was smiling. “You’re alive!” he yelled, and gave me a hug. Behind Naruto, there stood Shikamaru and Choji. Shikamaru was shaking his head. “Naruto,” he said. “I think you just made things worse. She was probably just wiped out from chakra control training and now you just nearly gave her whiplash. That and she has a bad shoulder to top it off. God, you are so troublesome…” I don’t think I could have said it better myself. Naruto then dropped me on the ground and spun around to face them. “Who are you calling troublesome, at least I’m trying to help!” Naruto yelled, while I winced after having been dropped. Shikamaru and Choji both turned to look around Naruto to see me on the ground staring back. “Uh…” Choji mumbled. “You just dropped her on the floor…” Naruto looked like he was about to deny it when he looked down and saw me sitting there on the ground. His eyes went wide as he started apologizing but I held my hand up as I stood to silence him. He paused, but closed his mouth. I sent him a half smile and gave him the peace sign before heading toward my notebook; quickly swiping my change of clothes from the grass area. Quickly waving, I scurried out as fast as a wiped out girl could so I could find Hinata and Temari, and tell them about my first day. A smile spread on my lips as I saw them nearing our dorms and I broke into a sprint to catch up to them. When their eyes caught mine, they spun around and headed toward me. “Are you okay, Moku-chan?!” Temari yelled, looking over my bruised body and bandaged shoulder. “I saw you at lunch! That stupid bozu-kun nearly killed you! God, that Tobi-chan is a piece of work I tell yeah! When I get my hands on him, he’s gonna be screwed!” Though she sounded angry, the three of us couldn’t help but start to smile and then break out laughing right there. Hearing my voice so much now was a little weird, but… a good weird. It sounded just like it had a year ago; nothing had changed at all. I didn’t sound older nor younger; still just a small, soprano tone but not too high that it made your ears ring. If only Mama could hear my voice, even if it was only a laugh or even a shout, because I knew she missed it. “Y-You look very b-bruised u-up…” Hinata took notice of all the scratches and bruises from having fallen from a tree for an hour and a half. “W-Was gym hard…?” I didn’t know how exactly to explain my situation so I took out my notebook and wrote in big letters, “Sasuke-sensei.” After they’d read it, Temari laughed so hard I thought she’d pee herself because of it. “So Sasuke-san is teaching you, eh?” Temari questioned as we began walking back toward our dormitory, and I nodded my head. She laughed, “Poor you, Moku-chan! He’s gonna work you ‘til there’s nothing left! Don’t let him do that, alright? And if he does, you know who to call!” She pointed to herself and I sent her a smile, nodding my head. “I-I don’t know…” Hinata mumbled next to me. Temari and I stopped and turned to her; seeking more words to flow from her mouth. “I-I think h-he would be g-good to M-Moku… H-He did help your a-arm… And h-he is t-training you s-seriously…” This was true. Shizune had even said my shoulder was in better condition then it should have been after having popped out, so he had helped me, and he was helping me with chakra control before throwing me into jutsu that would be impossible for me. While thinking about this, we headed toward our dorm and entered in there; I dropped onto the couch, Hinata headed into the kitchen, and Temari leaned against the door. We all just stayed where we were until I realized something. Oh no, not again. Right when I’d jumped up and gave Hinata a look, we both new that something was missing. I had been in such a hurry to reach them, I’d forgotten about Chika-chan just like back in the beginning of the day! Pushing Temari aside, who yelled out rather loudly, Hinata and I bolted down the stairs and toward the schoolhouse. Thankfully, the building wasn’t closed yet so we were allowed to run down the halls. When we reached the stairs, Hinata and I were out of breath. “D-Do you h-have a habit of l-leaving C-Chika-chan everywhere?” Hinata asked, gasping for air. I half smiled, nodding; I’d always seem to leave her somewhere and then freak out when I couldn’t find her. Once we regained composure, we strolled up the stairs and toward my locker. When we opened it, Chika-chan wasn’t there. However, in her place was a note in a blue envelope. Hinata and I looked at each other for a second before I reached out and grabbed the letter. Ripping it open, we read silently what it held. Dear Moku-chan, We have taken your beloved Chika-chan and are holding her hostage in our dorm. If you want her back unharmed, you must com to our room alone so we may speak to you. We stress the word alone, meaning no Hinata, no Temari, no Kiba or Naruto or Sasuke or anyone. If you fail to follow our rules, be prepared to say good bye to your loved one. With love, Akatsuki Hinata’s eyes went wide. “O-Oh no!” she exclaimed. “T-They’re seniors, t-that means y-you h-have to go i-into the s-senior b-building…” I blinked, while holding the note in my hand still. Their room number had been printed on the bottom of the sheet. She noticed my confusion and added, “Y-You saw t-the s-seniors at the o-opening c-ceremony!” I thought back to when we’d entered the auditorium and there were countless couples making out in their section. The senior building must be a whole different story… However, I knew I had to get Chika-chan from them. I wasn’t going to let them take her from me. Thinking about taking her back and all the strength in me, I realize that after one day of being with these people I was already growing; just like Shizune had said. With a grin, I waved Hinata good bye and headed straight for the horrific Senior Building. *End- Chapter 8*

CHAPTER 9!! *Moku’s POV* Right when the infamous senior building came into view, I knew this was going to be scary. While my dormitory gave off a sense of welcoming, this building gave off lust and terror. I shiver, smiling uneasily. If I didn’t have to, I knew I’d never step foot in there, but I knew I needed to rescue Chika-chan so I breathed in as much air as my lungs could hold and strolled to the door. When I opened it, I felt myself gag a little. The whole first floor looked like a rundown apartment; the paint was badly chipped, the carpeting folded up, smashed glass decorating the floors, and drunken bodies laughing like maniacs while being sprawled out on the floor. Some of the weaker-looking ones were stripped of everything but their undergarments. It was both frightful and utterly disgusting; especially seeing some of the less fit guys sprawled there atop the sharpened glass. Pursing my lips, I looked down at the envelope to find out where I was going. According to it, they were on the top floor and the room at the end of the hall. Thinking it to be fast, I headed toward the elevator to go upstairs. Little did I know there were five different couples enjoying a steamy make up session and just as the door opened, I was off running to the stairs. Taking one look at them, if I didn’t have to climb them I wouldn’t. They were almost as frightful as the elevator. Once I was at the top floor, after dodging countless buzzed seniors who were running after each other with kunai, I peered down both ends of the hallway. Now which way do I go? I looked down at the letter but it didn’t state which way to go. With a sigh, I turned left and walked to the end of the hallway and knocked on the last door. A man I didn’t recognize stood there with half a beer in his hands and I wrinkled my nose in disgust. Seeing as he, nor his half-naked companions, wasn’t any of the members of Akatsuki I left him standing there. He didn’t follow me, nor did he close the door, which made me a little confused, but I was too disgusted by his overall appearance to really care what happened to him. I strolled down the hall and knocked on the last door. This time, a blonde haired boy answered. He blinked. “Moku-chan, right?” Deidara said, and I nodded. “Why are you here, un?” I showed him the letter like he was a complete idiot. However, after he finished reading it, he showed genuine confusion. “I don’t have Chika-chan, Moku-chan. I don’t know who even wrote that, yeah.” My eyes went wide, but then I looked down in disappointment. If Chika-chan wasn’t here, then where could she be? Suddenly, I could see Sasori emerge from the other side of the room. “Who’s at the door, Deidara-kun?” he asked and Deidara turned around to look at Sasori who was now coming toward the door. “Moku-chan, un.” Deidara answered. “Someone took her cat and the person left a letter in her locker, yeah.” Sasori looked me up and down before letting me in; Deidara gave him a weird look. “You have business with her, un?” Sasori shook his head. “No, Itachi-kun does.” Deidara made a disgusted face before walking toward us and sitting on the couch. “That baka isn’t even here yet, un!” Deidara yelled. “And what does he want from her anyway? And why do you seem to know everything, yeah?” Sasori lifted his brow while Deidara was glaring menacingly. “He told us before he left,” Sasori answered. “But I’m not sure what he wants with her; nor do I care.” Deidara’s glare was replaced with confusion and I look up at the ceiling. So Itachi has Chika-chan huh? I tried to think of what he’d do with her, and a flash of what had happened yesterday filled my head. Oh yeah, he dangles her lifelessly from his hand. I gulped, imagining Chika-chan just dangling from his hand and how frightened she must be right now. “He told me we had to watch her until he gets back.” My eyes went wide. “Babysitting, un.” Deidara grumbled. “Why is he taking so long anyway, yeah?” Seeing as I wasn’t going to do anything anytime soon, I sat down in the seat next to Deidara while Sasori strolled back over to the back of the room where I saw puppets lined up. “He had business to attend.” Sasori answered, not amused in any sense. Seeing as this was the last of conversation Deidara was going to get out of him, he turned to me. “Hey, I’m sorry about earlier; Tobi’s a baka.” He said, peering at my shoulder. “Hey, you didn’t seem like you really had any sense of art, to be honest, so I have decided to explain my view of art!” In the back, I heard someone sigh loudly and Deidara growled. I leaned back on the couch; prepared for a long lecture of art. He explained to me his artistic belief was that all art, be it nature, our lives, or anything really, is fleeting. I took in his opinion and it was funny; he actually had a serious face the whole time. He wasn’t kidding. Art was an important aspect on who he was. Deidara also explained that this form of art also had a huge affect with how he fought; he used explosives. I smiled and laughed a little; so he’d been the one to destroy the junior building. Seeing my reaction, he smiled too. In the back, we heard Sasori yell, “Don’t get any ideas, Deidara-kun.” Before Deidara could say anything, the dorm door swung open. Itachi walked in and the first thing that caught my eye was Chika-chan. Just as I thought, she was dangling lifelessly from his hand. I stood up abruptly and ran toward him as fast as I could. “Good.” Itachi muttered to you. “You’re here. And not blown up or a puppet.” I blinked and behind me I heard Deidara growl. “Come with me.” He grabbed my wrist and towed me into their bedroom; slamming the door before either of the other two could say anything. He sat on one bed and motioned for me to sit on the other across from him. While I was hesitant, I did as he said. “It’s been…awhile.” He stated to me as if I hadn’t already known this. I slowly nodded my head and looked straight at him. He breathed steadily and closed his eyes. “What happened…that day?” I couldn’t answer that for multiple reasons. One being that I didn’t have anything to write on and another reason being that that it had been all a blur anyway. Everything that happened on that day was confusing and for the most part, I didn’t want to remember that. Seeing my hesitance, Itachi added to his question, “Everyone thought you died too.” My eyes shot open and I completely froze with disbelief. He saw my reaction and continued on with his side of the story. “We found out a few hours after the fact,” he continued. “All Uchiha were alerted first. They said you were in the hospital and floating between life and death. We all assumed you died after your visits stopped, but we never got the whole story. They would have told us you lived, but we were all fear-struck and would rather live not knowing what happened then to find out you were dead.” He sighed. “But it turns out you lived, so if we had asked the doctors in the hospital we wouldn’t have had to grieve. My father was most devastated. “Of course,” Itachi continued. “The arranged marriage thing was called off, but it doesn’t even matter. Only you, I, my parents, and your parents ever knew about it so it didn’t cause a huge uproar. So, that means you’re free.” A smile grew on my lips; it was nice to know I wasn’t restricted to one person. But my smile faded and I got off the bed; holding my pointer finger up in the air signaling Itachi to hold on a second. I saw a piece of paper and pencil on a desk so I grabbed it and returned to my seat. “Why was there ever an arranged marriage?” I wrote and showed Itachi. He read it over and thought about the question for a moment before answering. “I’m not too sure,” Itachi answered. “But I think it has something to do with your father’s family being close to the Uchiha and I guess they figured since both had a child around the same age, why not destine them to be together?” I sniffed, finding that utterly repulsive. If I wanted to marry him, I would; I shouldn’t have to do anything. Seeing my disgusted face, a smile appeared on Itachi’s lips and he chuckled. Confusion was visible on my countenance so Itachi added, “You’re probably the only girl in school who would dread being in arranged marriage with an Uchiha. If you haven’t noticed, most of the girls are infatuated with us. Maybe it’s because you’ve known us so long it doesn’t faze you; you had been a frequent visitor since you’re dad decided you were old enough to come to a place like Konoha.” I chuckled as well and nodded to his statement. I had visited the Uchiha’s from when I was seven to around twelve. Five years is a long time to know people, even if I only visited them once in awhile. “Continuing on with why I brought you here,” Itachi said. “I would like for you to accompany me this weekend to visit the Uchiha Estate and talk to my father. I’m sure he’d like to know that you are alive and not dead.” Seeing my hesitance, he added, “Like I said before, the marriage and anything related to it was called off. He’s not going to force you to do anything.” I smiled and nodded. Itachi nodded back, happy I’d decided to see his family. In a quick motion, he threw Chika-chan back to me and I caught her happily; looking her in her marble eyes. Grinning, I gave her the tightest hug imaginable with my eyes squeezed shut. “She missed you,” Itachi said and I opened my eyes to look at him. “She was crying; wanting so badly to be with you again. Chika-chan told me she didn’t want you to leave her places anymore so she didn’t have to worry that you’ll never find her again. She said maybe it’d be best to leave her in your bedroom so that she could sleep.” He turned to look me in the eyes as my brown eyes grew wide. “She watches you while you sleep, you know. She wants to make sure you’re always okay. Just like an older sister does for her younger sibling.” And with that, he left the room. He probably didn’t known how much he touched me just then; pretending that Chika-chan was real. No one, not even my mother, did things like that. I looked down at Chika-chan’s sparkling white fur and noticed how it looked like some of the stitching was coming out. Sighing, I left the bedroom and waved to Deidara, Sasori, and Itachi. Like before, the halls were atrocious, but now there were seniors crowding every corner. Seeing a freshman in the masses, coming out of Deidara, Sasori, and Itachi’s room nonetheless, must have been very strange for everyone because I got a few stares from some of the unknown seniors. Quick to escape, I looked for the nearest window and, momentarily forgetting I was on the top floor, jumped out of it. Screaming, I flailed the whole fall until I hit the ground. Except, just before hitting the ground, I fell on something. Or, moreover, someone. I gasped when I saw that I was sitting on Kiba’s back and quickly stood up to help him up. Afterward, I picked Chika-chan up from the ground and brushed her off as he began laughing. I sent him a questioning look, to which he answered, “Wow that was the most unexpected thing I’ve experienced this year!” I didn’t bother mentioning that it was only the first day of school, mostly because I had no paper. After Kiba finished laughing, he questioned, “Why were you in the senior dorms anyway, Mo-chan?” I lifted my brows at him. How did he expect me to answer? After a few minutes of silence, Kiba began laughing again. “I always forget that you don’t talk!” he laughed. “Wow, I’m stupid. Well, you don’t seem to have any paper on you either so I guess this will just have to remain a mystery to me.” He winked, causing me to flush a bit. “But hey, it’s late you know. I’ll bring you to your dorm okay? Since we’re headed in the same direction and all.” Before I could accept or deny his offer, he grabbed my wrist and began walking back to our dormitory. My cheeks blushed redder, but I didn’t force my hand back; instead I let him drag me back to the freshman dorms. While it wasn’t too late in the least, my eyes felt all droopy and tired. It had been a long day. When we entered the freshman dormitory, he turned to look at me. “I’m on the second floor, how about you?” I held up six fingers and he nodded. Then, he slapped his other hand on his face. “Damn it, I was supposed to bring back food for Naruto-kun, Sasuke-kun, and I to eat. Naruto-kun’s going to flip!” I giggled, nodding in agreement. He laughed as well before adding, “I guess I’ll catch up with you later Mo-chan!” He gave me a quick hug and was off running. Unlike him, I didn’t feel able to move. However, after awhile, I brought myself to take the elevator upstairs. When I entered Temari, Hinata, and my dorm, the two of them were looking at me. Temari grinned. “Why’s your face so red?” I peered away from her. “Oh and why were you and Kiba-kun holding hands?” I looked at her and glared, ignoring her question. Before she could continue, I snatch my iPod, laid on the couch, and pretended neither of them was there until I was fast asleep. *End- Chapter 9*
